Cover for April 2nd at Castle Combe

Post by toasty » Fri Mar 21, 2003 1:38 pm

Chaps,

I'm just about to pay £217 to Eggar Lawson/ Competition Car Insurance to cover me for the trackday.

This will cover me for up to £11,000 with a £1,250 excess (i.e £9,750 cover)

Personally I think this is a bit steep especially considering:
a) the big excess
b) the full value of my car isn't covered (about £17k)

......but in fairness to Eggar Lawson I've been unable to find anything cheaper.

Just thought I would check out with you guys before going ahead with it.

Any comments/suggestions?

Certainly when I come to renew my insurance in June I'll be looking to get a policy that covers track days too!!

I have never found anyone that offers the cover cheaper than Eggar Lawson.
I do however usually go for a lower cover ie £5K as the ins only covers the bodywork/ rolling Chassis.

Sounds pretty cheap to me! Never realised how much trackday cover cost til I voluteered (forced) to help with this section of the board. In all fairness I have spoken to a few underwriters who are all trying to pull out the market due to the heavy losses they are sustaining at the moment.

Still trying my best to find a solution to the problem.

I think an insurance policy for everyday use with an increase excess for 'Driver Training days on Private Roads' would be sufficient for us.

Extras would be:
1. Mod friendly
2. Green Card
3. Breakdown Cover

Mate the way I remember it you offered your services... Actually it was your first post.

Does this offer still stand or is it something that is more trouble than it's worth?

Anyway, I'm sure that when most of us come near to our renewal time, we would be far more confortable dealing with you than the average Insurance Company.

Please help us mate, we do appreciate it

I am not backing down on offering my services, I'm just having trouble finding an underwriter daft enough to take us lot on. On basic car insurance I will move mountains for you guys, but the track day underwriters are running at a loss so at the moment they are not bartering.

When you consider that one total loss can wipe out the profit from selling 100 policies and the fact that they don't sell a lot of them in the first place you can understand where they are coming from.

Still trying though!

It seems they are taking a hammering as my cover has jsutchanged dramatically.

Previously all I had to do was let them know and they up'ed my excess to £500 for the track day. That was it!

Now I have to pay £27.50 premium and I have an excess of £2750!!!!
