Valet Mode?

Post by A20LEE » Wed Jul 23, 2008 8:36 pm

Is there a device you can have fitted which limits the speed or rev's of your car when you drop it off with a company for some work? MOT and such like. I've dropped my car of with two company for work doing and both have "had a quick drive" even tho' they've had no reason to do so. Problem with owning an RS4 is people are keen to see how fast it is and obvious there not going to warm it up gently and cool it down properly in a blast around the block. So i'm keen to be able to have a Valet mode which limits the test drives.

It would be a great idea but they don't as far as I am aware. One of "their" quick drives hit 157mph on the roads in the '6 so I would very much like Audi to do something like this!

Cheers

I had the geo done in mine @ Audi the other day- the tech passed me on the A21 at about 150, then took about 6 months off my disks and pads. Had a whinge to the service controller who said he will " have a word". Its a big worry. If you tell them under no circumstances are they to drive it, and they do, threaten them with the law- they may have reason to drive it on the premesis, but why would a valet company need to rive it on the road? prolly not even ensured! leave the milage as it is make a note of it, and except no movement or change, and tell em so prior to them getting the keys. Bastards.

I know a 'car cleaner' that took out an M3, put it through a wall a nearly killed an old lady walking her dog! Now if thats not a reason to fit a valet mode i dont know what is.

I do remember reading on here about a device that would call you up if your car was moving etc and you could 'talk' to whoever was driving. Can you imagine that 'errrmmm why are you doing 150 mph in my car that only needs a polish???

Would a tracking system not tell you the car has been taken out and driven at speed then you can question them and have proof

Id then just refuse to pay for whatever was getting done

The poor man's 'valet mode' is to disconnect the N75 so that the car won't boost. I've done this in the past.

Admittedly if they know what they are looking for, they may find it and plug it back in, but i'll bet if a spotty young Audi tech or someone from your local MOT station takes it out for a spin and they feel no boost, they'll worry they've done something to it and take it straight back quick smart!

i took the rs4 to alps in clitheroe for a geo set . and when i went back i had to sit in the waiting room becaus 1 of the track rod ends was seized or some other bullshit to charge me extra. then the spotty mechanic took it up the road "to see if it was ok" i stood outside when he took it out and he thrashed it up the ind estate for about a mile. i wasnt happy.he said "it goes quite well" on return ,grinning. what do you do ? :thumbsdown:WANKERS

One of these hard wired to 12V would log every part of their unessesary journey, you can even overlay the trip onto google earth.
It will show their velocity and heading at every point and log it all to an SD card. Even just having it in the car would be enough to put them off if you give them an idea of what it can do!

You'll get a DTC logged on the ECU, but so long as you plug the N75 back in it will run at full boost again. Just clear the code down using Vagcom at your next convenience.

All

I did not join to sell our company but the prevention of this sort problem is simple with our www.trackaphone.com technology.
You can set speed limits and geofence areas around your car when you drop it off. Then get live alerts via Text, Email and a web screen to your own PC,Mac of Smartphone/ BlackBerry.

Nothing like the cost of the Performance Box above.

500BHP - Thats all possible with other standard devices out there.

Id be interested in a device that allows me to tell revs/gears, oil temp etc. as it can be quite difficult to argue a case with the manufacturer based on a speed limit and a geofence. (And Im talking from experience).
