Oh yes Guido from MoVit has repalced my discs under warranty along with a new set of pads, and Kim from QST fitted them and checked the car over for nowt [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]

Intersting John especially after your comments about skimming in the thread about brakes in the Grease Monkey forum.

So what you are saying is that if the rotors are skimmed they won't last? Just interested because I thought Porsche always skimmed the disks before fitting a new set to their cars.

Just spent the afternoon taking all the rust and sh*t out of the cross drilled holes in mine, which i think were skimmed after fiting some months ago to cure slight runout and squealing. Must admit that the rotors don't exacltly look shiny new [img]images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

exactly right mate, get them on a track and game over mate, they might be alright for everyday use but, if your putting heat through them you got no chance.

Well something rhyming with clucking bell springs to mind.

Cost of new rotors £105 each plus VAT plus a new set of pads £40 per pair plus vat = total inc VAT £293.75 although I have to say that I used mine at CC last October and they performaed great. So what happened at Donnington John - was it fade factor 10 or just loads of vibration amd rumbling. And have you had any squealing bedding in? The brakes, that is [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Personally they performed superbly

just got judder/vibration now

So what happened at Donnington John

But id had the brakes sorted by then Ian [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
No my problems started after the Hockenheim/Nurburgring trip can back with judder, and was told to get them skimmed, which i did, then i was told to use a harder pad which i did, Padgid Yellows, went to Anglesey and thats a bitch of a track on brakes and tyres and completely destroyed the rotors,they cracked and the judder was unbelieveable [img]images/graemlins/033102bad_1_prv.gif[/img]
So then i bought a new set of Porsche rotors and pads which were superb, and were cheap in comparassion to the MoVits, but being a "Tight Northern Bastard" i was hell bent no getting a replacement for the 6 month old MoVit Rotors, which they did, after a time of discussion and whys and wherefores.Also they are sending me a set of new race pads to alternate between the everyday pads.
But they are still noisier than the Porsche discs and still have a bit of judder, which im told will subside after a while.

PS what is the weight of the RS4? My S3 is booked in at 1485 Kgs (includes extras such as sunroof etc)

and Porsche ones seem good value, not better but more realistically priced, the MoVits are by far better at stopping

Are the Move'it rotors floating discs on bells ?

And IMHO after comparing Porshe and Movit discs yesterday I would say the Porshe ones are much better engineered

A different detail around the crss drilled holes which appear slightly larger, so i guess they will last longer.

Don't forget the weight of the driver and passenger aswell, get a couple of big lads in there and you're nearing the 2 tonne mark!!! [img]images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

Would there be any sense in increasing the size of the rear disks to releive some of the braking stain from the front? (I always thought the S4 and to a lesser extent RS4 rear brakes looked puny compared to the fronts)

There is a porsche 996 (I think) downstairs and the brakes look pretty massive all round, I appreciate it's a completely different car, but it does look like they've attempted to spread the braking more evenly between front and rear wheels.

....but then I suppose they have the engine in the back, so more weight over the rear wheels....
