Post by chunky79 » Tue Oct 23, 2007 7:14 am

The wife just got a quote for a £18k 04 plate s4, £856
For a laugh she also got a qoute for a £20k y plate RS4, £560
How the hell do they work that out.
Fully comp with business class.
She is 26 and i'm 28

Random number generator LOL
Seriously its a black art simple as.
Your quote can vary because of so many matches - for instance the cars value makes little to no difference, its the cost of the parts to rebuild it in the event of an accident, which would be similar for either model you picked at a guess. If more women have more accidents (or even people of a particular profession, or age group) in 04 plate S4s than Y plate RS4s then they will load the quote up.
If more S4s are stolen more in your area then it can make a difference.

You have little to no chance of working out the loading manually, even the computer could come up with an out of the ordinary quote simply because you match a perfect profile. Its some complex maths based on percentages at a guess.

There have probably been far more claims on S4's than on RS4's - remember the RS4's are very rare (by comparison) and consequently not many on the roads to have accidents. The premium on the theft side is quite low (look how much they knock off for adding better security!) so the majority of the premium is for repairing a car and for third party claims.

When I changed from my S4 (B5) to my RS4 (B5) the premium stayed about the same, despite extra performance and value of the car.

Black Art indeed.

We really couldn't believe it. Makes you think twice about getting one of the beasts!!!
The only problem is worrying about it once you have parked it up

You can't worry about it at all..if you worry you may as well not get one. TBH the RS4's are so stealthy most scrotes wouldn't know what they are, and so would leave them alone.

Most cars stolen nowadays are the older cars with poor security or someone getting the keys to steal the car.

I didn't think twice about buying my RS4..I don't think I thought more than a nanosecond after the test drive. But then again I'm a perfectly sane and logical accountant. My motto is "do it now".
