There has been a lot of talk about pressure testers lately and I have just got all the bits needed for around £50! and that included the compressor!!!
Screwfix and B&Q are both selling 1.5hp 6ltr compressor for just £39.99 at the moment.
Just though i would share this with my fellow s4'ers as i know we are all obsessive about air leaks

no probs:
using this as a guide
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... IBSA:UK:11
3" diam silicon coupler - about £5 from ebay
tyre valve from an inner tube - £1.50 from Malmart
2 jubilee clips - £2
mdf bung with hole in the middle - free
tyre inflator air tool - £9 from screwfix
Im going to cut the valve of the inner tube and insert it through the hole in the middle of my 3" round mdf bung. this will then be sealed with whatever i find in my shed. Push the bung into one end of the silicon tube and tighten one of the jubilee clips over it. You then put the whole thing onto your air intake, block off the breather and pressurise to about 15psi
Im sure i can find other uses for the compressor even though its a small one.
Hope that makes sense - let me know if you need anything clearing up or if i have missed something very obvious

i was using the spare tyre with mine but that compressor sounds a much better proposition, cheers for that top tip
you can get a valve from Halfrauds for a couple of quid for a packet of 2

Will that tyre inflator pump enough volume of air to pressurise the system?

i dont think that a tyre inflator flows enough air to be useful for a pressure test - this is only what i have read, certainly not tested it myself.

you're right, a tyre inflator doesn't have the volume of air, that's why i was using the spare tyre as a reservoir connected to the pressure tester by a hose with a tyre inflator valve at each end.
i had a look at both B&Q and screwfix but couldn't see anything for the money that had a tank attached. are they an in-store special ?

In B&Q it was on the end of the isle so maybe a special offer - it was marked up as £49.99 but went through as £39.99. The Screwfix one has now been taken off the website
this is the B&Q store in question:
