FATS - What is it ??

I've seen a load of post mentioning FATS and showing a load of data but i can't find any post that tells you what FATS is and what does it tell you ??
Anyone shed any light ??

Loads of info on here - do a search.
In short, it's the time taken from 4,200 to 6,500rpm in 3rd gear on a private road...
It's a measure of how powerful your car is - more meaningful than a 0-60mph time as that has too many variables, such as launch skill and gear shifting.

All you need is a VAG-COM software & cable (full Ross Tech version) and a *long* flat road!

What does FATS mean ?
I see from the other post that i need to collect data from Groups 003, 115 and ??

You only need group 003.
The FATS time as shineydave explains it is something generated from the data logged by 003.

Group 003 will give you the data needed for FATS but you might also want to log 020 021 032 115.

Sorry Graham, I'll have to find a new one...
Actually, for the purposes of the FATS test, you can use any measuring block which records rpm (which is an awful lot of them), because that's all you need to measure, but group 003 is commonly used because it also records mass airflow, which is another useful guide to how much power your car is producing.

My cable is on its way and im looking forward to trying a FATS run,what would be expected for a stage 3 rs4 on optimax?
