Hi,
If like me you are a tad pissed off the TMC that worked so nicely in an M3 fails to work on your £2k sat nav on your RS, there may be light approaching. I e mailed that guy from Audi and here is the response hot off the press.
Hi Chris,
Firstly allow me to apologise for the in-operative UK TMC system on your A4.
No A4 derivative vehicle built to date has TMC operating, however this option will be operational from week 48.
I am the main contact within Audi UK for all TMC enquires and I have been working with my Marketing and factory colleagues to produce a retro fit TMC option.
I am pleased to say that we have tested this option and it works.
We are now awaiting the necessary discs from the factory and our current expectation is January 2007.
I will add your details to an existing customer spreadsheet I have been compiling and I will be contacting your when the retro fit option is available.
NB. I am hopeful that we can offer this option FOC.
Regards
Tom Peterkin

Ahh, that sucks! I didn't even know TMC was broken. I love this on my Porsche. My RS4 Avant has a build date for the week of January 29th so I hope that it's fixed and functional by then! Very useful for long trips, but haven't found it useful inside cities as there is always traffic. Saved me hours though driving to Oktoberfest in Munich from Switzerland by rerouting me around loads of traffic.

I think yours will be fine if its beyond the stated week 48. Any way don't let it bother you too much, the car is phenomenal.

It's only Audi UK which has the issue I believe, if you're in Europe you should be OK, check with your local dealer. My TMC works fine in France and Germany just not the UK.

The problem is ONLY in the UK - because TMC has been "privatised" in the UK so it a subscription service unlike the rest of Europe where it is free-to-air.
BTW there is NO TMC in the US.

I heard from Audi yesterday. They said they are still waiting on discs(?) and they were not yet sure how they were going to be deployed with customers....

Hi All,
This is the reply I received today from Tom Peterkin of Audi UK, in response to my email to him on the non functioning TMC:
Hi Sean,
Thank you for your email and rest assured that you have been added to my existing customer spreadsheet for TMC enquires.
You are correct in the statement regarding the rectification of TMC for A6 & A8 vehicles, however, these customers were actually charged £100.0 for the installation of TMC on their vehicles.
As such I have been preliminary informed by my marketing colleagues that the same levy will be offered to all A3 & A4 customers for the retro fit TMC option that should be available in January 2007.

Got mine on my A8 for free, three months ago and now they've written to me offering to do it for £100!

Here's the email I got from Tom Peterkin yesterday:
Hi Dave,
There will only be one disc for the RNS-E sat nav, providing 2007 mapping and TMC functionality. We have not been notified of the part number of the new disc.

It seems their justification for the £100 charge is not only that's what they charged A6/A8 customers, but also that we will be getting new maps. However, on the A6/A8 it WAS a dealer upgrade, but we'll be doing the upgrade ourselves!
Well, I'll be comparing the map versions on the 2007 DVD with those on my current 2006_1 DVD - and if they're the same someone's ears will be getting a bashing!

At the least the information now seems a lot more clearer although as you pointed out Dave there was no charge initially for A6 & A8 so will be funny to see what they do this time.

Are these discs easily "backed up"?
