Not impressed with main dealer on my RS4 purchase.

Post by sherpa » Tue Jul 04, 2006 8:50 pm

Just bought a 2001 RS4 avant from Vindis audi in Huntingdon.
I managed to get them to knock 2k of the steep asking price of £32,900 as long as i placed the deposit over the phone.I was willing to pay the premium as it was the spec i wanted:-Sat nav,Nogaro blue,1 owner, piano finsh and full black leather.

I expected piece of mind buying from a main dealer but turns out it has had 2 owners, numerous stone chips to nose(which many have not even been touched up),oxidised wheel centre caps and cheap new front tyres fitted by main dealer.Otherwise the car is very good.

Maybe i was expecting too much from a main dealer vehicle and maybe i shouldnt have left a deposit over the phone, but i havent even had a phone call replying to my letter of complaint i sent last week and after the courtesy call i had after 1 week from them i got no reponse after pointing out these problems.

Has anyone an idea of my next course of action,i dont really want to return the car i just want these things rectified, although i cant delete an owner and selling me a 1 owner car which has really had 2 has really annoyed me.

Well if the car is not as described then go to the branch in person and kick-off with the sales manager. Its usual for Audi to prep their cars to the highest standard and rectify any cosmetics before handing over the car. The discount wasn't given on the basis that the car was substandard I presume so make some waves.

The big issue here IMO is the 2 owner issue. The other issues could have been seen at the point of supply. Did you check the car over at the point of supply? You wanted a 1 owner car and they told you it was a 1 owner car but it turns out it is a 2 owner car. This has to be breech of contract.

Peace of mind.....

Buying an RS4 B5 from an Audi dealer is NOT always a peace of mind, some sales man will try anything to sale what they have and very often don't know if the car is in a good condition, and they don't tell everything, what they want is......your cash!!!!!!!!.

It is like everything always be a pain in the bump, check everything in details, 30k is a lot of money, if they are an issue with them don't give up!! 8)

Got a similar issue - when I took my recently purchased B5 RS4 (which I had test driven and believed to be standard) to AMD for a healthcheck the car got a clean bill of health but it was found that the car had been remapped - the rolling road showed 430bhp. I would suggest you consider a similar check - I could have been up s**t-creek in the event of an insurance claim if this hadn't been discovered, and its not the first time a dealer has sold a remapped car as standard.

Currently waiting for the dealer to come back with a better response than 'we'll get it put back to standard' - otherwise will be having a word with Audi UK Customer Services....

At £31k for a 2001 RS4 - id be kicking up a fuss.

Assume at that price its exceptionally low milage example - personally speaking think you paid at least £4k over the odds. Even so youve got some peace of mind from an Audi warranty- worth somat i suppose.

If it had been me id have insisted cosmetics were sorted before i finalised the deal. The number of previous would be grounds to reject it or insist on some major freebies.

Cheers for the feedback lads.

I agree the main issue is that it has had 2 owners, this is what i expect from a backstreet car dealer, and im also not impressed with it having so many untouched stone chips.

I spoke to them today(i rang them) and they have told me they will collect the car-160 miles away and sort any probs out.Hopeful so far but lets see how far they go.

I keep getting the old 'its a 5 year old car' thing from the salesman but when ive paid good money for what should be a mint 1 owner top spec 36,000 mile car i expect a lot more that what i have recieved.

I would be happy if they respray the front(which they have said they will),fit me ally mirrors and give me a free service.Does anyone think this is reasonable of me or am i being too reasonable? All i got offered on pick up was a touch up kit!

Seriously wonder how these guys do any business.

Keep us informed what they offer. If your not happy hand them back the keys. Theyll be other minters round the corner.

If they are using the line "the condition is reflected in the price", then they are talking bo##ocks, at £31k it should be mint

Sale service.....

Post by quattrosteph » Tue Jul 18, 2006 3:44 pm

Sometimes salesman at audi don't give a damn, only one goal :get the cars out of the car park!!!! and get the cash!!! If you turn up like mister nice guy well they will try to shaft you!!

I will tell you a good one: Bought my car ( with warranty) after 1 month oil leak , classic: rocker cover seal not a big deal, but annoying because a lot of smell and drip on the floor. when i bring the car for repair i see one of the salesman and he ask:" Oh hello what's wrong with your car? " I explain the story and he said " Oh well i guess it is normal, it is an high performance car you know!!!!"
Only an Audi........What a bunch of w..kers!!!

Regards.

PS: Am i really negative ?

I had the same with additional owners after the log book turned up, got a free service in the end, maybe worth £400 :( My car was £19k from Leicester Audi, not £32k !!!!!!!!!! (Still a lot of money though)

Dave

PS I don't mean to be rude or sound stupid, but did you buy the car over the phone without seeing it?

They gave me all the stuff i asked, ally mirrors bonnet respray etc after a strong letter was sent so now i feel ive paid a fair price for what is now one of the best out there.

Ive been searching through main dealers for 6 months and have never seen one less than £23995 let alone 19k.How did you get one this cheap?Nosh off the salesman?

Not much consolation now, but whenever I've done a deal over the phone I've always done a quick rac data check to confirm number of owners, colour, etc. If you go onto the RAC website you can do it for free and all you need is the reg number.

Sorry to hear about this though - just another day in the life of an Audi dealer I'm afraid. :audibash:
