okay, I got stopped for speeding last night.. apparently I'd desapeared before they could get a lock on me so when they caught up they werent too happy - I wasn't going fast - 35-40 in a 30 after midnight. I got a telling off etc & was put on a 'speeding register' where he said if I, or the car get's stopped speeding ever again, they can take it off me! that sounds pretty full on.. what's the real deal with that?
any ideas?

They can't take your car away for doing 10 or 15 miles an hour over the limit!! They did show off....They make me upset, more focus on doing people driving a little bit over the limit than running after criminals, catching pedos, protecting the citizens...
Good tip, get a roadpilot or a Roadangel.

Sounds like they thought you were speeding but couldn't prove sh*t. So they thought they would spin you a load of sh*t instead.

They obviously believe that bull sh1t baffles brains. There is no speeding register in existence. If you are stopped by Police and you are using the vehicle in an anti social way, then under Section 59 Of the Police reform Act, they can issue you with a warning. If you get caught again, using your vehicle in an anti-social manner, then yes the vehicle can be seized.
However, this warning can only apply if the anti-social manner of your driving falls under one of two criteria: 1. You are driving without due care and attention, or 2. You are driving elsewhere other than on a road, i.e in a field.
Hope this helps. Sleep in peace.

Pop over to pistonheads.com they have a forum for Plod etc its good for advice. It is frequented by officers but in a helpful petrolhead way. You can learn a lot and get some sound advice.

There is no register, but local guys do talk to each other and can unofficially spread the word on your car. A friend of mine with an Evo got stop doing something stupid, but got off. From then on everytime he saw plod he was pulled and his car gone over with a finetooth comb. After being stopped about 6 times in a few months he changed his car.

cheers guys, thanks for the advice. He laid it on thick with the ASBO type driving register (which I thought was a bit harsh since I wasn't actually doing anything daft, other than going a little too quick - but still controlled & safe etc) - didnt like the idea of them taking the car off me either!
I wonder if there is an Anti social driving register, how do I verify I'm on it?

Personally I would make a note of the event and as much info as you remember... I'd refrain from indicating any assumptions you have regarding the position of the speedo on the dash. If you start to get harassed by the fuzz, then you have some info to go back to them with. But, in the meantime, I'd let it pass.

There is no such thing as an antisocial driving register, most police forces only use PNC - Police National Computer. This holds details such as registered keeper, whether the car has been previously written off, whether a new V5 has been issued, cherished transfer markers, Sec 59 warnings, insurance details, Mot details(only just online), and also one or two other markers, such as intelligence information regarding disqualified drivers using the car etc. PNC is not used just because you got stopped for speeding. Frankie says "relax".
