B5 S4 MOT

Post by Dippy » Tue May 10, 2005 1:45 pm

My first MOT is due soon and I have two questions:

1) Has any B5 S4 owner had MOT failures? If so what? I'm interested to see if there are any 'typical' failures for this model that I should prepare for.

2) I had planned to get AmD to do the MOT along with a service. However due to personal reasons it might not be convenient to do so, and I might have to get the MOT done by an Audi dealer. Does anyone have experience of what can fail an MOT on a tuned car? I am mainly thinking about the Miltek exhaust.

My car is much older than yours but looks like you have replaced the part my car was almost failed on.

One of the brackets (hangers) on the standard S4 exhaust system had come away from the main exhaust system, and this had to be welded back on.

Also the lights were aiming too high, even tho it was self leveling..... they adjusted these.... now people dont flash me anymore which is good.... and they still appear to self level.....

Dont think you will have any problems!

same as above. when i bought my s4 one of the exhaust brackets on the back box had snapped (I welded it back on) and also my mechanic friend said that my lights were out of alighnment but not enough that he was worried.

out of interest see what your breaking efficiency is, my friend said my s4 recorded the best figures he'd ever seen.

good luck dippy, though i suspect you've nothing to worry about, yours must be one of the best cared for s4s out there. :-)

My MOT ran out in February.
I was a bit edgy watching it get MOT'ed - the testers have this knack of looking nasty while playing judge and jury as they wander round grilling your pride and joy.
Mine passed with flying colours, the only thing he said he could fault on the car was a slight nick in the rub strip on the outer wall on one of the tyres.

Mine failed for the same exhaust bracket as described by gavster, a new rear silencer was required at a cost of £500 fitted by audi. I was a bit gutted as it ws fine, just that one of the 4 brackets had broken off. I had a suspension knock that they could not isolate, so could not fail on, but had to take a note of it.

So many ppl cant find suspension knocks on the B5 chassis type setups. They need a good levering in many different directions to find the worn joint. BTDT.
