Insurance - What are my key premium drivers?

I just got my renewal through. No problems, it is down again on last year. Neverthless I did a quick online check. Elephant were £100 more for same parameters and Privilege were only £100 less but that's for an unmodified car. So I think I'll renew again.
However I still feel that there is something about my situation which commands a high premium compared to the figures that other people have mentioned.
The Privilege online quote is a good indicator because it did not cover mods. I played around with the options to get the cheapest, so it had no legal protection, no NCB protection and no car hire. I also dialled in the maximum voluntary excess of £200 (compulsory £250). I have a clean license with no accidents (max NCB), no named additional drivers, and the car is garaged overnight. I am 39 years old.
The premium still comes to £710.
So what is keeping it high? The only thing I can think of is my postcode. However I live on the very west edge of Reading (I can see green-belt over my fence) in an area where the average house price is around £400K, and we don't have much crime (I know because we get neighbourhood watch info).
