Cat D insurance register

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help. I have just recently joined the forum and during my hours trawling the internet for an S4 i occassionally come across some adverts stating "Cat D insurance hence" and then the price. It does seem to make the cars cheaper.

I have found out that this is a categorisation of right off but do not know much more than that.

Can anyone give any advice?
Is this something to consider or should i steer clear?
Any help much appreciated
Thanks
Paul

Cat D can also be when the owner has decided to take a lower value for the car instead of having it repaired. Basically, it would usually be repaired. Look at a value of about 70% of a straight car.

Cat D is also not recorded at the DVLA, just on the insurance registers.

There is also cat X, now used for stolen recovered cars etc.

Cheers

Ben

thanks guys.
Sounds like one way to go if there is enough to be saved at the outset.

Just make sure it has a VERY good look over. People will usually try and save as much as possible when repairing cars and you may find A4 parts on your S4!
