AVS is the veriable service interval timing that takes all sorts of engine and speed issues and then calculates when a service is due. My own car is still on AVS at 65K miles, but some owners including myself, feel that the intervals are too long, usually around 10K unless you rag the dung out of the car and it drops by 2k. I have always had an intermediate oil change done, so once the car is showing about 5k left on the indicator, I change the oil and filter. I firmly believe that a car running two turbos and lots of BHP should have the oil changed more regularly as it get quite a beating and even the new technology oils cant survive that for the periods Audi claim it should...ho hum it is them that provide the warrenty and they put the oil in they recommend.

Cheers! My car is on AVS and has only had two services: 8855 and 23639 is still showing 7k until the next one... Currently showing 33300. Is that normal?

Surprised at the speed this has dropped, I'm now flashing service so booked in tomorrow, so it's gone from saying 7k miles til next service at 33,300 to 'service me now' at 35,250... Presume this interval has dropped so quickly due to the stage III I've had? Perhaps I'm driving too fast...
So going to Dovercourt Battersea tomorrow, has anyone got any advice on what I should insist is checked/done? Oil type etc, other fluids/filters? I'm not doing the belt this time round, we've got a second car so hope to get another year out of mine before 40k.
Thanks.

Anyone?
Just dropped the car off for AVS 3 @ 35,000 miles Any advice appreciated concerning what I should make sure is done, and whats the consensus regarding cambelt? At the moment it's not being done. Looking at a price of £350ish. Sound right?
Thanks

Mine is currently on AVS and was serviced last week by Listers Audi, who do at least know what an RS4 looks like.

Mine is on 33000 miles and it cost me £420.
They warned me about cambelt at 40K and pointed out the other things that ought to be done at the same time, such as water pump, tensioners etc., so I guess they are fairly switched on to these cars. Can't fault their customer service but £350 sounds good to me.
If its of any interest, they are currently using a Shell longlife oil for RS4's rather than Castrol which they only use for S3's and TT's. Car certainly came back running well and spotlessly clean.

IMO tuned cars, expecially heavily tuned ones, should have services and component replacements done more frequently than scheduled, because the Audi schedule is based on the stock car.
So for cambelt, the schedule for RS4 is 40K, so for a tuned RS4 I would recommend 30K. You may have only done 35K, but time is a factor as well as mileage, so I suggest you also get a new waterpump too.

Hi Bob,
Dippy hit it on the head; my RS4 has the same set up as yours 37k and only 3 services! At first I was really concerned about this but after a call to Audi UK and speaking to a contact at Cosworth Technology's, providing the car isn’t modified these service intervals are fine and were part of the brief by Audi when they embarked on the RS4 program as well as the other models from 2000 (A4, A6 etc) the idea was to produce an engine that would not need such a regular service as before.
I personally (like many other's on here) will from now be changing the oil every 6 month's, its easy to do yourself and isn’t that expensive and potentially as the car gets older and has more miles put on it may go some way in preserving the engine and its components.
As for the cambelt, yes do it now and whilst their there get them to change the water pump.
cheers
Tom
