Extended warranty in action

Post by ajsl » Wed Sep 15, 2004 8:25 pm

A few months ago, after some debate I decided to renew my extended warranty with Audi for my year 2000 (W-reg) S4, it cost around £850 (see this thread for details http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=46326).

Anyway the S recently needed a MOT so I thought I'd get a few things sorted under the warranty while I was at my friendly local Audi dealer (Lomond Audi in Glasgow).

I listed the following three faults :
  • My boot was constantly reporting itself as being open (which is a bit more serious than it sounds as the alarm won't arm with an open boot!)
  • The climate control display was "flashing" and didn't store the temperature in the key fob.
  • And lastly, one of my Oxygen sensors was acting up.
To cut a long story short, total cost to fix these three things was £821.

This consisted of a new boot latch, new heater control panel, and a new lambda (oxygen) sensor. I didn't actually get the costs I had to ask the (surly) receptionist how much it would've cost.

The whole thing was very smooth with zero hassle or fuss (well besides the usual Lomond grumpy service staff ;) !).

I was actually a bit worried about whether they'd fix the oxygen sensor as I only noticed it via my VAG-COM, though on refection I think my car was running a bit rich as well.

Anyway, I'm well pleased!

It's great when the warrent co pays out :)

I've just put my (very far away) 98 S4 in for service, DIS pannel, Xeonon Adjuster, Track rods, diff oil seals, arb links & cam belt.

Audi managed to c0ck up so I got the belt change for £100! the service was the usual price & the rest was all courtesy of warrenty direct. Made me smile anyway :)

Fade2Grey,

How have Warranty Direct been with regards to actually paying out? I was considering them for next year.

hey ajsl, they've been fine. Dropped it into the dealers, they spotted a couple of the faults - Rang WD (technically the dealer could have done that but I wasn't sure what was covered etc) - they confirmed the cover. The dealer sorted the rest. I also went on a 'problem hunting' mission since I was no where near my claim limit ;)

Put it this way I'd happy renew - especially considering the price! I was pleasently surprised, I was expecting a fight.
