TrackDay Insurance - Are you covered?

After speaking with my Insurers (Barclaycard) today, it turns out that I am covered for trackday usage without any additional premiums, subject to the following conditions:
- The Track event is 'Organised' in advance - not a free-for all
- The event is not a time trial
- No racing takes place (ie, you are not actively competing with other users )
for those who are unsure, check your policies by contacting your insurers - you just never know (saved me about £200 just for the Donington event ).. My advice for what it's worth - If your policy does cover you, get a confirmation letter from your insurers..
If your policy does not cover this, then maybe try a specialist such as
Competition Car Insurance

I'm covered with Direct Line, and they said no way - so if anyone else uses them and thinks differently, please let me know

Dunc, I was told the same by Privilege (Direct Line).
I've been thinking about asking Jon (Leeds) to sort out some good coverage for us, being a fellow RS4 owner 'n all.

In total for Donnington and Castle Coombe its going to cost me 450 quid
Need to do some sums to see if it is worth ditching my current insurer (renewal due in June), or just paying out for one offs

PS Phil - who is Jon?

£450 is too much money
It costs me an additional £60-65 per track day with norwich union, however the excess goes up from £250 to £2000
My theory is £2000 is easier to find than £50,000
Dunc have you tried other insurers
If you go to the bookatrack web site i am sure you can get single day for £100 or less

I got quoted 212 for Donnington by Competition Car Insurance, which is who Bookatrack recommend. That was for 14K damage, 2K excess. Castle Coombe is 230 odd. The guy on the phone was called Chris, he had been on a trackday before with John Roberts (Chris has a R5 Turbo).
I dont mind paying 200 quid, just perhaps need to ring some other insurers first...

Just to add my bit to this:
Audi Insurance include organised Track Days in my insurance, although the excess is £1,000.

Talking to Competition Car previously they said that Castle Combe & Goodwood are 'high' risk and therefore are loaded compared with Bedford/Brands etc.

Just got a quote of Egg - covered for track days as Dean said - same stipulations as Sita posted too, up to a maximum of 6 per year - just let them know where and when beforehand.
Quoted me 905.10 with a 1000 excess for accidental damage (I asked for this)...
beats over 1300 with DL, no trackday cover and had to pay 400 for a tracker device to be fitted also...
My DL is up for renewal in June, but just checked, they will refund me £405 worth of premium...do the sums and assuming I do more than the two track days I have already booked for this year, its a no brainer...

shocking - just rang Egg to confirm my quote and they went and spoke to the underwriter who said:
"WE DO NOT AND WOULD NEVER COVER TRACK DAYS"
They are adamant about this and are going to verify how the original lady said yes to Track day cover. I will let you know what they say.
Dean - Its important you verify this as they are saying no to me.
sod this insurance lark for a game of soldiers - you hear a different thing each time you call them

Right, Egg have called me back - the confusion is that they did support Track Days up until October last year. So if you had insurance with them before then they would most likely honour this - but its important to double check.
Sita - Barcalycard have the same underwriter as Egg (they told me this) so you may want to double check too...

Dunc, as discussed, I've just reconfirmed this with them and it seems the underwriters recently stopped covering trackdays on new policies. Mine is ok as I took mine out last Sept, so I'm still covered. Confirmation letter on its way.
I understand your frustration, the feckers. I remember trying to get quotes for bringing my new car back to the UK from Germany - every company i spoke with said they'd cover on the vin number only, however when you get them to double check with the underwriters, the answer turns to 'NO' . the never ending story...
A modified Imprezza owner at work recommended a company called Greenlight Insurance in Essex. I rang them, and they are around 25 quid more then Egg but will cover me for trackdays - He didnt mention a limit on the number of track days, but you have to pay £65 quid per track day.
One good thing, is that when I told him about the mods (engine chip), he said "is that AMD", i told him its REVO and he knew them too - which makes a change..
Look like I will go with them
