Audi warranty comes through...

My car was in the dealership today to get the centre rear seat belt fixed as it would not come out. Anyway, as it was in I mentioned an odd clicking noise when I reverse, and an occasional squeak when the steering is at full lock.
Upshot is that they are going to fit a new seat belt, new power steering pump, new read diff seals, and strip the gearbox to replace the reverse cogs ! I was shocked to say the least, but it does kind of make you feel glad you splashed out on the warranty. They reckon 10hrs labour just to remove the gearbox, let alone repair and replace it.
It does strike me as odd how some people seem to have difficulty getting anything out of the warranty, and others seem to be having the entire car replaced - I guess it is down to the dealerships attitude...
Anyway, big thanks to all that recommended going with the warranty when I was first asking for advice I reckon it is going to save me in order of a couple of grand in this case.
Question is, when the gearbox is out should I get them to replace the clutch (45,000 miles) ?

Hi,
Nice one!
I think you are quite right that it really down to your dealers attitude. Mine has been very helpful too.
This is one thing that made me stump up for another year's warranty.
I am quite sure that if you find someone helpful at the dealer they will be more used to working through the Audi claim system than other warranty companies. And it is after all good business for the dealer and should lead to a happy customer.
Personally I wasn't very keen to part with the £755, but I'm pretty sure I can get at least that much back from it.
And as my dealer mentioned they thought my gearbox was a bit noisy....it could save me a lot. £7K wasn't it Paul!

Well it makes sense - a couple of hundred quid now or £1200 later on.

My RS4 is finally going into HWM Audi next week for a new gearbox. 3rd synchro was doggy and at first they tried to get the parts but apparantly none are available (!) so now, after 4 months and some nagging at Customer Service the new box has arrived. It's all under warranty. The car is a 15000 mile 2000 X reg and i've just bought the extended warranty.

Does Audi offer you the extended warranty or do you have to apply for it?

Deffo get the clutch done, its a no-brainer
You have to ask for extended warranty Ken. I did not get a letter or anything telling me mine was up and I could extend.

You just ask your dealer for a quote......which SHOULD be the same wherever you are. The extended warranty is in fact an insurance with Aon so it's not as good as the Audi one but still gives "acceptable" cover. The price is £765.00 and is based on engine size. I was B*gg*r*d about by my local dealer who quoted over £1100.00 so went elsewhere.

I also just extended the Warranty on the RS4 and that was £765 as well which is good value if you compare it to other models with the same engine size!!

John, does that warranty take account of your mods?

Part of the reason for continuing to get it serviced at Battersea Audi was that they fitted the mods and know all about the car. They welcomed it back like a member of the family and really ensured it is well looked after. If they weren't prepared to extend the warranty based on the mods then they would have said something.

Thanks John. Yes indeed I'm sure you're right, although I wasn't actually implying otherwise.
