I’ve seen an RS5, used, with 35k on the clock and ceramic brakes. I understand the discs may well last over 100k miles but what about pads ?
And how much to change either ?
No track use, just normal road driving.
Is this a good option or just a liability ?

Compared to standard OE, they are a fortune, I'd do my homework on them.
From memory, the initial wear rate is the usual Mic'd measurement, beyond this the discs will then have to be pulled off the car and weighed to assess life left.
Unless you have a real good reason to buy Ceramic I'd think twice, upgrading pads alone is a much cheaper option. Just my tuppence worth pal

The car already has them, can’t opt for normal brakes if I want the car.

However, if the price and car are right ?.. why not, but definitely need to take the above into account.
Might be worth investigating when the discs and pads were fitted and mileage since installation. Someone with more direct experience will likely give you real-life figures to work on.
When I said about the pads, I meant if anyone wanted to upgrade their current arrangement, Ceramic for me would be track only, for fast road I'd go down the better pad route, that said I think the Brembo OE pads are pretty good
We've exactly the same issue on bikes, how far do you take it and for what benefit..thankfully, Carbon Discs aren't an option, so far they are the exclusive domain of Moto GP and the smaller classes, but the average rider has endless options on pad material, I run Carbon Pads on my Race/Track bike..

If they are the same setup as R8 discs, they have a wear indicator.
