C7 RS6 Vibration and knocking

Post by Fat Head » Wed Dec 04, 2019 2:18 am

Sooooo
on my C7 RS6, I have a vibration on harsh acceleration, it is fine at constant speed and normal acceleration, so it is not tyres or suspension
Also have a knocking/clunking on full lock

Could these both be CV Joint issues or something else? and do you think they are related or individual issues

I cant show the vibration on video, but it feels like when you launch the car, its coming from the rear

The knocking on full lock is here

Any help would be much appreciated

I'd imagine it is your prop shaft centre bearing. I replaced mine on my c6, but the prop itself was in need of replacement so in the end just bought a reconned one.

Would that cause the knocking in the video? I agree the bearing would cause a vibration on acceleration though

Its hard to really hear it. Best thing it to jack the car up and wiggle the prop. It should be tight.

I went to awesome gti and they said the prop looks to have excessive movement forwards and backwards and the rear seal seems to be dry. Up and down movement seemed ok so I don’t think it’s the carrier bearing but the prop itself

Either way I got one coming and will have a bash at fitting it, hopefully it works

Update, i bought a 2nd hand propshaft from Poland of all places, 4G0521101J
This was £300 posted to me, so not too bad compared to £1600 from TPS

Was unable to find an M revision that was reasonably priced

Had awesome GTI fit it and its completely cured the vibration and knocking issue so happy days

How long it will last is yet to be seen but it was a gamble that luckily paid off

Cant seem to find any issues with the old bearing so its a weird one so reluctant to throw it away

Yes don't chuck it, send it to a propshaft specialist and they'll replace the cb clean and rebalance it. It couls have also been the UJ's on the prop. Keep It as a spare.
