2006 b7rs4 engine management, epc & traction control light all on.

Post by cov73 » Sun Jun 02, 2019 8:42 am

Hi,ok so i started my car for our journey from South devon back to the Midlands last night and the epc and traction control light were on and wouldn't go off. After the car warmed up they both went off but about 4 miles later they came back on. The car then started running terribly, misfiring and nearly a total lack of power. I pulled over, switched off, restarted it and it sounded fine. Epc and traction control light went off but the engine management light had now decided to stay on. The car ran fine for about the next 100 miles and I made good progress as I wanted to get home asap. However, around the 100 mile mark the epc and traction control light decided to come back on again and the car was in limp mode and barely able to go above 75mph. Thankfully I made it home. The car isn't my daily driver as I use it in the summer really for camping etc but I'm a bit worried about it now😐. Has anyone encountered these problems or know what they could be or even price was for parts? I'm hoping it's not to pricey as last year it cost me knocking on for 3k for a gearbox and clutch replacement. The car is due a service as the service indicator is on(I was going to get this done after my holiday) and it has an mrc stage 2 map and it's had the carbon clean etc. In the meantime any advice would be appreciated whilst I wait for mrc to get it in for me. Sorry about the essay! Cheers, steve.

Best thing to do first is get it scanned by someone with VCDS.
This might point you in the right direction.

An expensive fix? I've just started it up in the garage and the lights are all still on.

Are you in Coventry?

If you’re anywhere near Walsall or Wolverhampton I’d be happy to come and scan for you.

The most common issues with the EPC light is brake switch , throttle body, or the intake flaps has stock.

Do you have any VCDS scans?

My RS4 b7 has 76000 miles on it and i noticed leak from the crankshaft seal.

Having a high mileage RS4 starts to become very expensive mate!

Thanks for the offer and I've only just seen this reply after I've just booked into the dealer for a diagnostic check. Β£60 wasn't bad I thought and it's only up the road from me.

Hi,No I haven't any scans. I've just booked it into the local dealer for a check to find out what's going on then go from there.

Tell me about the cost! Had to change the gearbox last year and all in all including a new clutch I ended up with not much chance from 3k 😐

Would something like a brake switch cause all those lights to come on and the car to run rough?

HEY, it depends on what parts are you going to use new or used .
New throttle body from audi dealership would be around 1100 pounds.

The strange thing is that traction control came on and the EPC at the same time, sounds like an electrical problem in my opinion not from throttle body.

Thank god you have RS4 specialists in your country like mrc or Unit 20.
I live in Greece and only 70 RS4 are on the country so we don't have specialize garages like mrc and even the dealerships aren't familiar with the RS4.
That's why i do the labor myself.

You need to invest and buy the VCDS if you intent to keep your rs4 because the EPC,ENGINE LIGHTS , AND TRACTION CONTROL ARE ALWAYS COME BACK!

Luckily I have an audi main dealer about 2 miles up the road and mrc is around 25 miles from me. The main dealer can diagnose the fault for Β£60 and it's likely I'll get mrc to do the work as they'll be cheaper.

But to be honest if it's going to cost me silly money then the car might get parked in the garage and left for a while. It's not my daily driver so I don't rely on it. I spent nearly 3k on it last year now this has happened and its barely done a 1000 miles since I got the gearbox sorted last summer.

I love the car to bits but I can't justify chucking another sack of cash at it in such a short space of time plus I might end up divorced πŸ˜‚

Also they ESP light might came on because your steering angle needs calibration.
Go directly to MRC you don't have to spend that 60 pounds in the dealership.

what mods does your car have?
I'm planning to get flap delete, aftermarket exhaust , and remap but i don't know if i'm gonna keep it because i spend a ton of cash in the 7 months of my rs4's ownership.

Thank god i'm a car mechanic and i do lebor myself i've done carbon clean, change front driveshafts seal , lambda sensors and the maintenance (engine oils , transmisison and diffs oil change.)

Also the audi dealerships boss here is a very good friend of mine and i have 17% discount on parts and they are still very expensive!

Like you said i love my RS4 but even though i'm a mechanic , audis parts ain't cheap and im started getting tired for the rs4's brakedowns.
I love this naturally aspirated v8 but if it keeps brakedown i'm going to put my hands on a mitsubishi evo.
