First port of call should be whoever mapped it.
Then usual suspects, starting with MRC.

If Audi said they won't/wouldn't touch the vehicle, what did they do to make this "suddenly" happen after being there?

Maybe they drained the gearbox oil instead of the engine oil!!

First thing to do is get the error codes read (and recorded) and reset to see if they return.
VCDS is the tool for that.
An almost identical error appeared with no obvious provocation on my sons BMW X5 the other day and it drove in "limp mode" which is very weird - I tried it (max 60mph for starters). Reading the codes produced meaningless non-errors, but clearing them it then drove normally (it's the petrol 4.4l V8 version) and has done so for many miles since.

I advised Audi that the vehicle had no gearbox problems when I dropped it off but they weren’t having any of it, manager kept
Going on about how it’s remapped so I had no choice but to take the car with the fault.
It’s just very odd as the vehicle was running smooth, Also a coincidence how the error starts as soon as vehicle is collected from servicing

If the error wasn't there when delivered to Audi and was when picked up, then at the very least they should read, record and reset the error for you!

Gearbox eventually stopped functioning completely so had the box reconditioned and all is good, not done from main dealers
