Gearbox rebuild

I've just heard that my Dealer, HWM Audi, have been told to rebuild my gearbox rather than replace it - 3rd synchro on the way out. Having seen here that several RS4s have had box problems, what are the views/experiences out there on rebuild Vs replace?
PS. 2 bent soft wheels when serviced last week.

By suggesting that they want to rebuild it, they are admitting there is something wrong. I would push for a new one. There have been at least two replaced under warranty.

Rebuild versus replace, cant see any real end user difference
Main differences are
dealer not busy so can resource in house, only good dealers are busy????
and time off road
rebuild could take 1-3 weeks
When i had mine replaced, gearbox failed on Saturday, got car back on Wednesday with 40k service done as well
Good luck

The work will probably be farmed out to a gearbox specialist as most dealers do not have the knowledge and skill to strip/rebuild gearboxes

mine was done under warranty when barry owned it, apparantly there was no hassel they just replaced it even though it was modified!
