Service Part Costs

I've a B7 RS4 Avant and it's coming close to service time.

I have got a quote from a garage who lots of people off this forum have recommended and their parts prices look a little off.

For the oil (Platinum QFX) they are charging £100 plus VAT
For the plugs (Not Specified) they are charging £120 plus VAT

I guess I could simply ask the garage if I can supply my own parts, but it leaves a bad taste when I know the garage is overcharging for parts which I can get myself for significantly cheaper.

Thoughts?

It may work out slightly cheaper, if you just pay for the labour. Sometimes it works out more as labour rates are £75 + VAT hence why they create the service packs.

But I’m pretty sure the big names have their prices spot on as the system creates the invoices with tps’s up to date prices.

I bought spark plugs last year at £14.50 + VAT per plug so it sounds about right it may have gone up slightly.

The oil in most reputable places is in big 200 litre barrels, see it from a business point of view. It’s where they make their money at £8 + vat per litre. In reality you can buy quantum oil for less than £20 for 5 litres. Or a qube of 50 litres for £35 I’m sure.

They’ve got to make some money haven’t they?

But hey I’m one of those too, I like supplying all my own bits too.

I was quoted £55 + vat for a qube of 20ltrs of quantum fully synthetic from tps two weeks ago and that was trade price. Oil filter was £29 .80 + vat ..
Im sure I've read somewhere the oil filters are made by Mann and can be had for half the price without the audi logo on them ??
