How long would B8 RS4 owners expect OEM discs (and pads) to last?
Just had mine in for a service (at a reputable indy) and been told that the fronts need replaced after 16k. The specialists were appalled. Admittedly the first 4K wasn't in my ownership but it wasn't raised at last year's service (at about 8k).
I don't track and I'm not overly hard on the brakes. The IS-F I had previously was about 35k before needing new discs, which I think is reasonable.

Re: RS4 brake disc life
Might be better off asking this in the B8 RS4 section, for more comments. I'd be surprised at it needing new discs though, unless it's seen track work.
At my request, I had front pads replaced at 17k miles as they wouldn't have lasted until the next service. There was still around 3mm of material left and I would say that I'm a moderate to hard road user with braking. Steel discs should roughly be replaced after the 2nd pad set wears out.

Re: RS4 brake disc life
More details having spoken with the mechanic - it's severe corrosion at the rear of the front discs as opposed to excessive wear.
Interestingly the rears are absolutely fine!

That's what I would have expected as well - however with the corrosion, if the discs have to be changed, the pads will have to be tooSurrey Sam wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 5:52 pmMight be better off asking this in the B8 RS4 section, for more comments. With the rears being fine, I'll raise it as a quality issue with Audi and see where that gets me.

Re: RS4 brake disc life
Sounds odd if I'm honest, how reputable is this independent? Can they send you a picture?
If there's excessive corrosion to the inside disc face, then the pad is not making proper contact and would instead point to a faulty/corroded calliper. Sure you'll need to replace discs and pads but just doing that, is not solving the problem. Hence the scenario sounding rather odd.

Re: RS4 brake disc life
Get them skimmed if corroded? check calliper pistons also, they should push back by hand.
Re: RS4 brake disc life
I had thought about getting them skimmed, yes - I did have that done on a set when i had a 350Z.
Surrey Sam, it's a good point about the pads not making correct contact.

Re: RS4 brake disc life
My original set lasted about 22k. Second set were nearly done at 38k (80% worn)
