Insurance Help!

Post by ChrisRS » Mon May 16, 2016 9:20 pm

Hi all,

As some of you may know, I got myself a C5 RS6 back at the end of January - my first "proper" car and I bloody love it!!!

The only slight problem being that the insurance cost is horrendous due to my age - now the old and sensible age of 22!

I have brought the car off the road this week due to me finally realising that the amount I was paying was just ridiculous, with it being alongside my daily driver that is currently occupying my 2 years no claims discount, until that expires at the end of this month.

Now I come to you guys to ask advice on any specialist insurance companies that you know of that may be able to assist.

I was with Adrian Flux previously and am not having much luck finding any other company that is bonkers enough to insure me!! :bash:

Thanks in advance for any advice, tips or laughter at my expense!! :beerchug:

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris - do you mind me asking how much you're paying?

If the car is standard then it's worth trying the usual online comparison sites, although once you start serious modding you need a specialist. I have used Greenlight in the past who covered my heavily modified Saab 9000 (see sig) for a very reasonable sum of around £400 from memory with an agreed value of £6k.

I have also found Bell's and Chris Knott's prices competitive.

Of course it all depends on various factors e.g. post code, what you do for a living, homeowner, marital status etc. which is why I pay just over £300 comp for my RS6 (light mods) with protected ncb through Tesco as I live in a relatively low-risk area (ME8), have held a licence for 28 years and drive a PC for a living...

You could also consider limiting your annual mileage and adding a second driver to reduce your premium, which is what I've done.

Cheers for the reply!

It was in the hundreds every month - so way over the top!

My postcode is not the greatest - South Manchester M41

Work(ed) in IT full time, not a home owner, single and have had my licence for 5 years with no convictions or accidents, mileage limited to 6000 miles and got a discount for having 1 year NCB on my daily driver.

I just believe that my age and postcode are quite against me for a car with this much power - but it has certainly been fun while it lasted!

Interestingly - the 8V & the 8P RS3 are both a hell of a lot cheaper than my C5 RS6 to insure, but they obviously cost a lot more in purchase & depreciation and after all, I think the fast estate is much cooler and far more rare! :biggrin3:

Unfortunately, the hunt for insurance is going to have to be put off and the RS6 sold as this Friday I was made redundant and am now on the job hunt :boohoo:

Hopefully I shall be back into RS ownership in the not too distant future!

Cheers
