Next RS4 to have 2.9 TFSI 420hp, 9 speed s-tronic

"The nine-speed S-tronic transmission will be the only option on the next Audi RS 4, which will have a 2.9 TFSI powertrain with 420 hp."
That is a significant change. Speculation?

Quite possible, the B6/7 S4 was a 4.2 V8 same as the B7 RS. It makes sense in terms of current engine down-sizing. Means I have no interest in the next RS4 though, which is maybe a shame?

Ah well that's scuppered that. GTR up for sale was going to hold off until next year to see if the RS4 would go turbo (not interested in a non turbo) but looking like 2018. Next!!

It's a shame that they're dumping the V8 but with emissions (cough cough, recent VAG news) being a hinderance on larger displacement I suppose it's the only way to go...
I've heard rumours of electric turbos so hopefully no lag! At a minimum I'm assuming variable geometry?
I just hope they make the styling more aggressive. The new S4 looks a bit... business...

Seen hints dropped in articles that there will be a small electric turbo to reduce lag plus a large conventional turbo for power. It's already been confirmed that the new SQ7 will have an electric turbo

The B9 A4 and S4 look awful IMHO, especially the front.
