It seems to be the nature of this engine to form carbon build up around the valves, and in time this effects performance - seemingly not helped if low quality fuel has been used. Typical treatment is to visit one the specialists named regularly in this forum and they will perform various checks, including a rolling road power output check.
Treatment can be quite expensive, but the performance gains, when coupled with other mapping and minor modifications can take the power of your car way North of original factory output.
High mileage cars that have had this done appear to be showing circa 330-390bhp before and then 380-440 claimed BHP after.
I have not had my car done, and am on an '06 with 54k miles but my car feels plenty quick enough for me!
