Hiring an RS in southern Germany

Guys,
I'm looking at taking the wife to go look at some castles in Bavaria before Christmas and, doing the maths, thought it might be cheaper to fly and hire rather than drive my own B7 RS4 over there. Thing is, I can't seem to find any hire firms renting RS4s even the B8. Has anyone done this? I'be found R8s but for big money - not economically viable really. I'm wondering whether I could contact Audi direct and ask then if they'd lease me one in Germany, what do people reckon?

...In all honesty, I've been searching this all day - it looks like I'm taking my own RS (secretly 'woop, woop')

Glad you've got it sorted.
I live out in Germany and have for around 15 years in the last 18 and have seen some big changes with the higher spec' cars. The insurance has literally gone through the roof on them as personal cars and this has impacted on the hiring of them as well. Just to give you an idea as I was looking at buying a RS4 and could have got Fully Comp protected insurance for £508 in the UK (10 year NCB, 37 year old) and for lesser cover in Germany through AXA or Alliance it came in at a little over €250 per month....not surprised the hire companies have now taken them off the lists.
....and I've ended up with a S5 instead of the RS4....gutted and cant wait to move back to the UK in the future.

Wow, thanks Mick - that is crazy money - I wonder why that is? I'm writing a report of a fantastic tour I just had with my wife where we drove north Wales to Munich for two nights, then onto Salzberg for two nights followed by Fussen, Augsberg, Ingolstadt, Wurzberg, Lille and home. The car was loved throughout and left on the street - In Germany people seemed to really appreciate the car - back in the UK I would have been more cautious. Your post seems to explain a lot. The S5 is great though - my wife wants to move to Germany now though, Bavaria was beautiful indeed.
I'd love to talk about living out there at some point - thanks.

No problem Tim, anytime you want to talk about it just drop me a line.
Did you manage to do the Grossglockener Pass??? without question the best road I've driven down there and why I'll be doing it all again in 2014 with Rally for Heroes...along with 2 days over the Swiss Passes, wish I'd been on here more regularly as I could have given you some amazing routes to do, not that its hard down in Bavaria mind you.
I'll look forward to seeing your write up though as I'm always out recceing routes for the Rally.

Unfortunately we missed the Grossglockener Pass as we were slightly north of it. I had a look at the Rally for Heroes site and would love to do that but you're booked up for 2014 - I'm still serving - I might put down for a reserve place though.

Your more than welcome mate, we know a few people drop out as the time approaches and it all depends on the latest date you can be contacted to come along and pay all the costs. You'd still be welcome at all the get togethers that we have on the build up including the Christmas Party on the 30th November at the Hilton Hotel in Coventry.
If you are serious pop over to our forum as there's loads of info on there about the event and what we are doing over the next 12 months:
