Rear wheel bearing

Post by Batfinnk » Wed Jul 03, 2013 6:15 pm

I need to change my rear wheel bearing but have hit a bit of a snag. The bolt that holds the driveshaft in place has rusted and looks like it has welded itself to the hub behind it. I have cleaned a lot of it out and the impact bit feels like it is starting to slip and round off the old bolt. Any suggsestions on anything to try and break the old bolt off. I have a new bolt with the wheel bearing kit so not worried about damaging the old one.

Sorted it today and fitted the new bearing. Used a chisel and hammer to break the seal on the old bolt on the outer edge. Finally worked. Took me 3 hours in total including about 15 mins filing all the corrosion out of the hole for the abs sensor after I had used a drift to hammer the old sensor out. It was well and truly glued in place. Need a new sensor now but no more ticking bearing noise and no hideous labour charges to pay anyone :)
