Greenlight are a good company in my experience - only reason I changed to admiral last year was because greenlight couldn't put my other half on as she was 24 at the time. Hoping they can do it now as they were very easy to deal with and very reasonable.

Also, just got a quote form elephant, and somehow they charge a higher premium if the car is garaged overnight compared ot if it's only on the drive - go figure!!! Also price saving with tracker was only £15 so might not put tracker on this year as I'm 100% sure it's the thing draining my battery and I'm really pissed off with the crap I keep getting from them - will find a better company for tracking!!!

Got the quote through from my insurance company(Highway - through Noel Dazely) for the recent modifications to my S4 (up to 400bhp + all the trimmings).

"We'll need a payment of £95 and your excess will go up to £600."

Fair enough I thought.

Then I realised that i'm 8 months into my policy. Therefore, pro-rated, a £285 premium hike. Then I realised that my initial premium was £1195, with a £115 pro-rated payment made when I was 2 months into my policy for a generic remap, a £150 annual increase. Therefore my annual premium if I had all the mods when I'd originally taken out the policy would have been.... £1630. :?

I hope my 3 years NCD will make a BIG dent in my premium come renewal time in December. Although working for an insurance company, I know they can't normally be accused of giving people good news.

That's an amazing quote Leon.

I am just under a month from my renewal. I don't have the actual renewal premium yet but I'm seeing promising numbers via Adrian Flux and Greenlight not far behind and Noel Dazely yet to commit to a figure!

I'm most likely going with Adrian Flux again this year. Couldn't be bothered to shop around.

It's insurance time in a few weeks, so I thought I'd share again and add to this resource.

The cover required: Fully comp, protected NCD, Business use, like for like on mods

Car does low miles but I say ~7K (not limited) for insurance. Always garaged.

Car: B5 S4, £9500, Remap + exhaust = power ~325BHP, arbs, brakes.

Currently insured through A-Plan with Marker Study.

Renewal: £620
Price after one phone call: £559

Typical sounding cover.

The quotes:

Adrian Flux insuring with Equity Red Star (Lloyds): £564

Cover sounds good, I was told cosmetic mods, interior, wheels etc although covered like for like, I could change what I wanted so long as I told them, no charges.

Greenlight insuring with Highway: £587

Great sounding level of cover:

-24 hour claims assistance service, including a courtesy car provision
-£100,000 legal expenses/solicitors' fee cover (solicitor must be pre-approved)
1. Modification friendly insurer (like for like cover on modified parts)
2. Optional Track day cover (per event basis, please contact us for full details)
3. Guaranteed 14 day hire car in event of Theft/Total loss (write off)
4. Courtesy Car provided by Approved repairer for duration of repairs
5. £500 Stereo cover
6. Unlimited windscreen cover (£60 excess) - approved repairer must be used
7. Free foreign travel (green cards) for up to 90 days per annum
8. Boomerang Tag Key loss protection (£1500 towards replacement locks)

Noel Dazely, yet to quote. Got back to me very quickly asking the right questions. Now are stalling on giving a figure "researching the market to get the right price".

I'll give Noel Dazely the benefit of the doubt getting a price, but given the recommendations here I am inclned to go for the Greenlight policy. Sounds comprehensive, is only £30 off the cheapest and I mentioned events at Bruntinghthorpe and was told that would be their usual £50 trackday cover with double excess on the day.

Continued from my last post........

Just when I thought Noel Dazely were ignoring me they called yesterday to check what ball park my quotes were and and to say they were going to be pushing to get me a price that afternoon. Well they just returned my call.

£500, £250 excess, mod friendly insurer (Ensign), courtesy car guaranteed in case of repair or total loss until a payout offer is made, european cover etc. Basically every thing I require. No track cover option however.

So I call my current broker A-Plan to say I don't think I'll be renewing and can I have my 9 years NCB proof (renewal says 5 as it's that insurers limit). They want a last attempt to keep me. My current insurer Marker Study wanted to keep me and so dropped to match the £500 (final reduction but remember the £620 original renewal). However they couldn't match the level of courtesy car cover the Noel Dazely policy had.

They then pulled £489 through Group Ama out the hat!

New insurer but same broker so an easy transition for me.

I read off my credit card number while I was ahead. So you know the brokers, shop around!

Does sound like a good deal, but a standard car makes a big difference and opens a lot of doors to insurers that close as soon as you modify and having a partner on the car should normally reduce the policy so long as age doesn't have a side effect.

I should have read this post (as Graham advised).

Having been with Noel Dazely for the past 2 years and had a drop in premium last year, when it went up this year (to 685) I thought that maybe its just another fall-out of the credit crisis and all insurance has gone up (hence my other post on the subject). However it does seem, just like my mortgage, I should always shop around...

At least based on this forum I only needed to call a few people.

Greenlight quoted 572.70 (same underwiter that I have now), but because my car is a personal import, insisted on additional security. This seems to be a Greenlight policy although they told me that all their underwriters would insist on it. I have the same factory thatchan cat 2 alarm and immobiliser that any other B5 S4 owner has, but they wouldn't negotiate.

Next Adrian Flux. I filled in their web-form and they e-mailed me a provisional quote of 500, adding that I needed to phone to confirm it. I did so and they then upped it to 639, blaming the fact that I hadn't recorded my modded engine power on the web-form (which I do not believe is true). So  to Adrian Flux for being time-wasters.

Finally on to A-Plan (Thatcham office). Just like with Graham's experience they came up trumps with Group ama and 539 quid.

As soon as you reach 25 your premiums start going down as long as you don't get loads of points and bumps of course !

Posted this elsewhere until I spotted this thread...

Adrian Flux, Greenlight & Keith Michaels couldn't match Admiral's renewal quote of £535 for me.

Most were about £850, although they did cover the cost of the modifications.

Aviva wouldn't quote as they don't cover remapped cars (but they cover every other mod???).

Just in the process of trying www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk - they give good discounts for IAM/RoSPA, plus they run a scheme for HPC members that cover track days and other HPC members.
