I've just renewed insurance with Direct Line for my BMW 535d Sport - fully loaded, cost just over £50k in Jan - cost £832, that was after going up £80 when I had to tell them the misses just got points on her licence recently - she decided to race an unmarked copper in an old shape black 5 series. 86 in a 60 - doh. Also I ran into the back of a van at the end of last year, he changed his mind on a roundabout ! I'm just 30.

The missus renewed her insurance the month before, also with direct line. £550 on a new A4 cab 3.0Q with all the knobs, c£37k I think it was.

I think the highest cost we suffer though is depreciation. I p/ex my previous car for the BMW. 18 month old A4 2.5Tdi Q again with all the options. Paid £35/36k - "given" to the BMW garage for £18k. so that works out at about £1k a month in depn! Hmmm. And it wasn't high mileage, can't remember exactly, no more than 30k on the clock.

Come live in Ireland and you will be paying for my 1999 S4:

1200 euro car insurance (that’s cheap for 34 year old full NCB) 1euro= 68p
999 euro (yes that's 999 euro!) for Motor Tax a year!
once off payment of 4500 euro for vehicle Registration Tax  (that’s just to put Irish Number plates on the car!) for my 6 year old UK imported Car.

sorry for the rant, but i just needed to get it out of my system!

Feel better now

thanks

Eric.

he he, 250 quid for the Quattro coupe and 350 for the Gixer thousand, both fully comp. I do find it helps considerably if you play "hide the salami" on a regular basis with the manageress of your local budget though.

Eu 3,700 - easy (regardless of age) when you just came from the US with no prior Irish driving experience and you're trying to insure a car that (theoretically) doesn't exist in Ireland.

Irish RS246 meet - absolutely - I'll even host it if there's interest.

I moved from Ireland to the Uk. Now I only pay 55p month protected, comp and fully disclosed stage 3 modded,30 years old. I do like taking the car to Ireland though. The wheels do not like it, perfect roads for a while then a huge hole. I’m sure you guys know where the holes are, but still it’s a hazard. I still love the car especially in Ireland.
