Insurance in Australia seems to be faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar cheaper than in the UK!

I'm not surprised with such a low car density. I've driven over a lot of Oz, including Sydney and Melbourne, and I must say that the stereotypical 'laid-back' attitude of the Aussies seems to be reflected in their driving. The accident rate in Oz must be far less than it is in the UK.

My renewal in March from Direct Line was £546 for unmodified 2001 RS4 but they insisted on Tracker first. This was less than the last premium I paid for an S4 which I sold in 2001 (£678). I am in North Staffordshire, 50 yrs old with clean licence and full no claims.

I spoke to Direct Line about switching my insurance to the RS4 which I will pick up next week and the guy reckoned I didnt need a Tracker on it which surprised me as I thought a Group 20 car of that value would need one. Anybody else been told this?

2 things - one every insurer requires different requirements based on the predicted risk, i didn't need one but got it anyway as i've lost a car before.

second if you get anything from direct line get it in writing as during the summer months most of there sales staff are untrained students (i know this cause the missus works there)and make sure they know what an rs4 is as when i tries them for my s3 the first quote was for £650 turned out to be a 1.8t, next was £1,100 turned out to be a 1.8t quattro, then eventually they sent me one for £2,000 S3.

muppetts - i tell

£628 from Tesco 15k millage limit. £250 excess. I'm going for £500 excess that should bring it down even more. Not worth claiming for anything up to about £900.

Two named drivers kept in garage in Aberdeen area. 32 years old and 35year old girlfriend. Both of us have full NCB. She has 3 points for speeding.

So do you have it yet? Looking forward to seeing some pics and hearing your first impressions.

The forecast for the weekend is big grins...

Got it last night.

I'm soooooo delighted with everything little thing about the RS4. The drool at stance and presence of the beast. I've allways loved the wheels and resisted wasting money on buying a set for my S4 as I was determined I'd have an RS4. Then you sit yourself in the hi-spec Recaros. A sports car doesn't feel like a sports car unless the seats hug you. The perferated steering wheel. The updated dash instruments. On starting and reving the engine you can really hear the V6 something I missed from my old old MX6. The standard S4 exhaust is too quiet.

it's the muts nuts

I think it will be the first one in the area to have a bike rack fitted to the roof. Too hold my new Cannondale Gemini 900 full suspension bike - which is also an excelent bit of kit. Jumping things I never dreamed possible with my skill level. I'm a very very happy man!

Many congratulations . Having had mine for 2.5 weeks now I think I know how you feel .

Enjoy...and post some pics when you get a moment (especially of the hi-tech and the bike rack).

Cheers, Richard.

Had a quote for a std RS4 from Tesco's for myself and wife;

- Ages: 30 and 33 respectively (always went for the older woman)
- 10k / annum (may need to adjust this as it will be company car)
- Location: Shropshire (TF1 postcode)
- Excess: Compulsory - £250 Voluntary - £150 : Total £400
- Protected NCD included

Total: £856.80

Quite happy with that for a first quote really - doesn't put me off whatsoever. Sure I could do better - try again when I find the exact car.
