I was under the impression that "all" chargable work would only be carried out once they ring you and tell you first! not put the parts on and wait until the customer comes and give them a big bill!

Not too sure about the young lady, but does appear to be that they did not advise her/him beforehand, or if they did, they certainly did not advise of the costs to do so.

From my perspective when I went there to book the car in a couple of days ago I had a general discussion on the brakes on the S4, and somehow managed to get on the subject of the brake fluid and how this affects the performance fo the brakes. Even though the car has only done 19.5k miles, it was advisable to change the brake fluid as it had been two years since this had been done. They presumed I had given the green light for this to go ahead and I presumed this would be included as part of the 40k service and not an addition.

Communication...sometimes it is good to talk and sometimes its not!!

Oh well, I'll know better next time!!.

Sorry all

The story is alot clearer, Finchley Rd quote is only for the cambelt (£729.00), to include service they want another £472.00 ...The quote from colindale was only for the service, they want another £525.00 for the cambelt.

I have booked the car into Whetstone Audi, service & cambelt for £790.00

Cheers

Hi Chaps..

Why the need to change the cambelt at the 40k service?. Is this essential or can this be left until a greater mileage has been acheived.....just curious as to why have something done if it really is not necessary.

What are the indications that your cambelt is about to go?...or is this just something that goes without any warning?

Why the need to change the cambelt at the 40k service?

It's part of the service schedule 40k for RS4, and 80k for S4. If you don't do it, then your warranty is void.

As it's part of the schedule and therefore the warranty, there is no room for negotiation!!

Not sure you would notice it until it's too late, and if it is too late, you'll know about it!!
