NEW RS6 OWNER.

Post by C6Dia » Mon Mar 07, 2016 9:29 pm

Hello gents,

Just picked up a 10 plate RS6 Saloon. Absolutely chuffed with it. What a machine! After reading peoples comments on here I can verify its definitely a weapon!!

However having the thing just 2 days a problem seems to have appeared.
Looking for some advice if possible please.

Symtoms are
Quite a violent shake in the centre of the car when full throttle accelerating or anything over 2/5 pedal travel.

Not speed related as it'll ease to 70mph with no issues or vibrating. Gear changes up and down are smooth too.
So i dont think its suspension or gearbox related. Im leaning toward something diff related. Possibly prop shaft?

Little background of car; Fash, imfamous seal has been replaced and also power steering pump. Plenty of reciepts and in all fairness doesnt feel abused. Also has had MRC treatment with engine and gearbox map.
The guy who sold it was genuine to be fair and on the way back when collecting it, everything was spot on. So just bad luck this has happened now i think.
On the plus side the cars got audi extended warranty until June and its booked in next week.
Service is all in order and its a low mileage example ie sub 55k.

Any thoughts suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I can tell you now that if its been mapped by MRC then Warranty will be void on any driveline components, gearbox, diff, prop, engine etc.
New rules by Audi, cars are scanned immidiatly and black flagged if mapped therefore even if your "friendly" with your dealer it aint getting no warranty work!

Could you describe things a little better? does it only do this during accellration or is it something thats partially always there? it could be the centre bearing on the prop shaft on its last legs this would cause the "shaking" feeling.
Barring that there's a whole host of things it could be, but i'd not say it was gearbox related (although if its not already had it i'd get a oil/filter change for the box this is reccommended more so with MRC maps due to the increased load on the box)

Have you got any warning lights? when the car shudders do you lose power or is it just as powerful? reason i mention this is, the shudder could be a hard missfire caused by coilpack/spark plug or even a bad injector openening up too much... could even be as much as a failing fuel filter regulator/HPFP causing rich running on boost giving you loss of power and violant shake.

Hope this helps a bit and welcome to RS6 C6 owenership!

Thanks gents for the quick replies.

Well the car has been in at Audi the past couple of days.

The conclusion was a failed propshaft bearing. Which is what i had expected.
Unfortunately the bearings not replaceable by itself apparently and the entire propshaft will need changing.

I was expecting a bill but audi extended warranty have authorised the repair. So HAPPY DAYS
As a little bit of preventative maintenance I'm having the gearbox oil changed.

Thanks for the input

Bhav

Look forward to driving the thing now, had it over two weeks and only had done 70miles before it went funny.

Fantastic resolution and glad my internet guess of centre bearing was right!
I'm impressed that Audi have picked up the tab considering the new rules that have come in surrounding warranty, can i ask if your warranty is with Mondial or direct with Audi?
If its still the mondial warranty this would explain it, the new Audi warranty wouldnt have supportted such a claim as the car would be flagged as soon as it was plugged in.

Least you'll be back enjoying the car soon enough!

The car has mondial warranty. I think I'll definitely be renewing with these guys, quoted £1300 odd quid which i think is quite reasonable.

I think there the same as the BMW warranty i used to have. My 635d was remapped and they always covered bits that went wrong e.g. thermostats and a few sensors.

Yes its a relief. Would have taken a chunk out of the RS6 has gone bang fund.

Thanks again gents

Can you directly get a warranty through mondial? i'd be interested if i was covered with the car being mapped.
