Lower spec badges on an S car.

Post by duggy72 » Thu Apr 09, 2015 6:43 pm

Hi all,

Has anyone put a lower spec badge i.e.A4 tfsi or smaller engine designation on an S car? You couldn't get away with it on an RS due to bigger arches but you could quite easily get away with it on an S.

I'm looking to get A B8 S4, I was considering of debadging it or putting a lower model designation badge on it. Before you say I have a screw loose hear me out. I don't have a garage so the car would be on the drive. My thoughts are that for the average scrotum who is cruising looking for a car to steal, the lower designation badge may initially put them off.

I've heard of people doing it just so it is less obvious, a bit of a sleeper. But in terms of being less stealable is an S4 any more attractive to the professional thieves than an A4? I'm not sure there is much difference... A recent A4 is probably worth just as much in parts as an A4 when shipped abroad and stripped down.
Might put the joyriders off but can joyriders steal modern cars now without the key anyway?
Having said that, there is no harm in doing it anyway.

Thanks Mike,

Was thinking more about the thieves that steal these to use as getaway cars when committing other crimes. A pro would know what to look for but an average Joe may just pass it up thinking it was an SLine tdi.

End of the day if they want it they will go to extreme lengths to get it. A friend of mine was jumped by three balaclavad up guys waiting for him to get home one night. He was parking up his E92 M3, gives him nightmares. If they want the car that bad let them have it I say. Better you walk away than die trying to be a hero.

I just thought that the false badge may stop the sniffing around.

Yeah good point about getaway car. Can't hurt to try... And surprise a few people racing off the lights!
