RS4 Servicing

OK, the AVS light has just popped up. I want to supply my own oil, how much do I need to take along?

just over 6 litres for my s4 last time

I assume it would be the same for the RS

I ended up buying 8 litres as mobile 1 comes in 4 litre or 1 litre bottles and they sting you for the 1 litre bottles!

Plus I like to keep a bit spare for topping up.

.......interestingly someone told me recently that once you've opened a synthetic oil you shouldn't use what is left over as it is hydroscopic and so absorbs water.

Not sure how true that is, but I always decant into a smaller bottle anyway, so that there isn't any air above the oil. Which hopefully would prevent any such action.

Thorney out of curiosity why do you want to provide your own oil for a scheduled service?

If you insist on Mobil 1 (although Audi put in Castrol Formula SLX for the RS4 at the factory), go to Aston Green who provide Mobil 1 (obviously this is simply because they probs get a better deal on Mobil 1 compared to Castrol)

Just wondering

Last time I went to AG they put the wrong oil in and I never even got an apology for me having to hike back to garage and wait while they replaced it. I've always used Mob1 and its just cheaper to buy it rather than pay their silly rate.

Agreed,

By dealership of choice (who are excellent) charge £9 a litre for their semi-synthetic oil.
Mobil 1 works out about the same cost (perhaps a little cheaper) and from what I've heard it's one of the best oils around.

I've heard of some dealers refusing to use customers oil, which I think is scandalous, mine on the other hand (Millhouse Audi Bath) seem happy to do so.

I think if the car is under warranty then it would'nt surprise me if a franchised dealership insisted on using their own oil, but out of warranty, the customer should be satisfied.

As long as the oil has the relevent Audi approval code then the dealer can't do feck all about it. I always use mobil one as well but from what I'm aware it's only suitable for fixed servicing intervals and not variable. Anyhow I make a point of changing every 3-4k.
