RS4 purchase

Post by J-P » Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:40 pm

Hi

I'm new to the forum and I'm interested in purchasing a new RS4. I've always loved this car and have expressed an interest in it for some years. There's one in the local showroom that's just gorgeous with very low mileage. It was first registered in Jan 2008 and has 1500miles on the clock.

The dealer wants £42k for it - a few months ago this would have been a bargain but right now seems a mite excessive.

Does anybody have an idea of what a reasonable offer should be for this car?

Also, is a DRC issue inevitable or is it just that the bad news on the car gets printed / talked about a lot more?

Are newer RS4's more or less prone to DRC problems?

And finally, where's the best place to get it serviced - I live in Surrey and it sounds as though Camberley Audi is the best place from looking at previous posts on this forum.

Thanks very much for your help

Regards

J-P

Hi J-P

I can't answer the price part, although agree that it sounds high

DRC issues appear to be totally independent of age, driving style, body shape or suspension setup (SS+ or normal). Good part is that Audi UK have extended the warranty from 3 to 5 years (or 80k miles) for all DRC related issues. This is from the date of first registration, and applies to all RS4s, whether they have so far had an issue or not. You're right in saying that bad news gets talked about more, but I'd still estimate that in a 5 year period, most cars will have at least one DRC problem. Audi are still working on the root cause, but hopefully will resolve it soon.

Camberley are brilliant. Many people (me included) drive well out of our way to use them, so you're lucky to be so close!

Good Luck

car sales are at their lowest ever, so if there is ever a time to get a few £k of that price its now. key is to hold your nerve, if you really like the car and have the cash then you have the power. as long as you make it known you want the car then you'll have them in your pocket. They put up a fight a first, say they cant go any lower etc etc, but leave your number and give it a week or so theyl call you back and you'll get your price. Lets be honest, its not like someone is going to come along an snap it up anytime quickly

Thanks, Dom and David. Sound advice. Had a go in a C63 the other day and the RS4 this morning and I have to say that whilst the Merc is a stunningly quick and very nice car, the RS4 is just awesome! I loved it - on a back road not far from here, I nailed it past a 911 and when I checked the mirror, he was just a tiny dot! The car's so easy to drive as well, with a light clutch, smooth gear action and great steering. The interior is much higher quality than the C63 and the ride is more comfortable. It's probably beaten in a straight line by the C63 and the engine noise in the Merc is sensational but overall and especially when you take cost into account there's no question in my mind that the RS4 is the better car! Just need to try an M3 saloon now!

A couple of further questions - what are the servicing costs like? and what should I expect in terms of fuel consumption?

Thanks for your help

Regards

I had mine serviced in SE London Audi, AVS service cost around 400 quid( Oil change and all filters changed 12ltr Oil used), prices do differ from dealer to dealer so look around, I did not and just went to the closest dealership!

Fuel consumption, im getting about 190-200 miles from a full tank, full tank costs around 65 quid (depending on where and what fuel you use)
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

HI SJ - yes I read about your nightmare - If it makes you feel any better, we got my wife's Freelander 2 serviced from the dealership that we bought it from after just 1500miles (and a year), they wanted £430!! Fed me some BS about having to check if it had been offroad, to which I replied that they could just have asked me and I'd have said "no it hasn't".

What was really annoying though is that all the "4x4" stuff is in sealed units, so once it's on a ramp - t's just a visual check to make sure the sealed units haven't been damaged. Anyway needless to say it's not going back there again!

Is that Repsol J-P?? If so are we both looking to compliment our iconic 4x4 with another?
