DIS display fading

Post by SimonS4MTM » Thu Aug 07, 2003 5:32 pm

The DIS display on my car is starting to fade at the edges.

I have read somewhere that this is a common problem and that Audi are aware.

Has anyone had one of these changed whilst not under warranty, either free or at a reduced price.

If so how much should I expect to pay?

Hi,

I think this is very common.

I had mine replaced earlier this year (under warranty).

I think the new dash costs something like £400 excluding labour!

Would hope you can at least get some goodwill out of Audi.

I've had two fitted in my S4. The orginal one was fading round the edges. Lucky me the orginal recall work for the engine ECU had never been carried out on my car. I got the ECU replaced 3 years later only to discover after 14 visits and 6 months later that the new ECU was no longer compatible with the older fixed code imobilser. I required a rolling code immobiliser which is built into the DIS some how. The first new DIS lasted 3 weeks and went mad. The second one has been fine now for over a year.

I heard £200. But I'm inclinded to go with the £400.

You don't get cheap parts for an Audi!

Call your local dealer parts section for a price also call VAG PARTS and try a scappies.

Unfortunately as far as I know they're not really a 'plug n play' cos the keys and imobiliser have to be matched and only the dealer can do this. My dealer told me they get a faxed code from Germany.

HAving said that, I'm sure I read something about key codes on a a VAG COM post?

Try contacting VAG COM direct.

Yep, very common and £ 400 + labour. Had it on my 98 A4 1.8 T sport which was 3 years old and 100k miles at the time.

Hi Chris,

Actually I think that is pretty decent. Shouldn't have failed though!

I had a similar experience with some out of warranty stuff on my A4 1.8T and was quite pleased with a healthy contribution from Audi.
