KUMHO Tyres: Anyone used these tyres recently?

Post by saf » Tue May 08, 2007 6:28 pm

Heard good things abotu these tyres.

Had a post a last year about these but not too many peole had used them.

The few that had said they were pretty good in the dry and not too bad in wet either with good wear.

Anyone used them recently and if so what kidnd of mileage do you get out of a set?

Also which model tyre?

And how do they compare to your last branded tyre? Please state which brand.

Many thanks

i used khuma ecstas on my supercharged civic type r. they r front wheel drive i know but it used to spin 1st 2nd in dry and 3rd in wet. they were the cheaper option when i bought my 19's for the S4 but using them on the civic put me right off. suppoose they wont be as bad with 4wd.

I used to have Kumho Ecsta KU15's on an old tuned Vento VR6 and was impressed with them in the dry and wet weather performance was pretty good too.

Had a set of Kumho Ecsta KU31's on another Vento VR6 and these were in a different league, they were quiet and both dry & wet grip were excellent.
I'd rate these better than Toyo T1-S's and maybe even a smidgen better than the T1-R's baring in mind I used them on a mildly powerful FWD car. Each Toyo I've had has become excessively noisy with miles and/or become mis-shapen too.

Unfortunately neither car was owned for any length of time before I sold them so can't comment on wear rates.

I think perhaps the reason Kumho's are so cheap is so that they can penetrate the market here, they certainly have a good following in the US.

I got 4 Kumho's on mine (18's) and I can't really fault em.

They offer more than enough grip, wear reasonably well, they're cheap - what more can I say.

They came with the car when I bought it, virtually brand new on brand new alloys - I wouldn't have picked them originally (Fancy some Toyo's) but now I think I'll have another set.

IMHO - I'm probably not that good a driver that I could tell the difference between these Kumho's and some Toyo's.

Pays your money you takes your choice :-)

Well so far the reviews seem good.

I went to ne tyre site and read a review saying that they were just as good as most of the premium brand tyres.

I just want to find out what S4 users have to say.

Which tyres do you have nickb834?

Theres several types, theres the 712, amongst others. Trying to see which is the best one. I may give them a try.

Ive just come from using Pilot Sport 2's which are really good but very pricy, and dunlops which were complete crap. Ive gone through quite a few tyres, as Im always driving over screws and nails and things. Thats why Id rather get the Kumho's.

Im still undecided onthe goodyear GSD3's, but been told they stopped making them by a few people and worried if I ever need spares I wont be able to get same pattern.

Many a source tells me the Toyos are good, but wear very quick compared to preium brand tyres and Kumhos. SoIll count them out.

My new Kahn wheels came with ecsta supra 712s. Very good dry weather performance, ona par with eagle f1s. A little more understeer in the wet though.

my local tyre fitters specialize in Kumho. They also do mail order http://www.taunton-tyres.co.uk/shopping ... hp?sort=2a
Never used them though so cannot comment on if they are any good or not. I have always stuck with F1's except for when I got talked into having some Avon ZZ1's, never again!

Whats the difference.

KU 31 sport or the 712 supras?

Ive been on the Kumho site and I cant seem to find either tyres on there.

I guess the more expensive is likely to be the better one?

Anyone know the difference?
