Don't tell them a tracker is fitted. They'll know the normal places for trackers and will rip it out and dump it in a skip somewhere.

What about getting those bollards that rise out of the ground fitted... with a loop on that can actually be chained to your vehicle. A bit extreme I know... but hell, its something different. The bollard stopping them driving straight out & the chain to stop them thiking of driving around it. Cant be that much... relative to the cost of trackers etc... and it can be used on any car in your drive. Only downside of course is it does not help with hijacks...

Bollards in your drive: If they are going to break into your house to steal the keys and are prepared to use any level of violence to get those keys....you are likely to press the button to lower the bollards in order to save the rest of your family?

Loop chained to car: Same principle applies.

Hijacks: There are car alarms out there that have anti-carjacking features...they ared esigned to allow the thieves to drive away in your car and thenthe car stops after half a mile or so.

If they want your car they will get it... end of story. The idea is to deter them... bollard will make your average chancer think ugh, next house. They often break into the house when you are A: Not at home or B: Asleep - they hope to get the keys undetected. If they were planning on holding you at gun point to get your keys they would hijack you rather than break in. I still think the bollard would be a good idea.

They might then just lay in wait for you to take the car out for a drive...?

Again... back to my point is they would just hijack you. My post says it does not prevent hijacks... bollard idea is to stop people jumping into your house while you are away/asleep and nicking your keys on the sly.

It has to be a fine balance between deterring a casual toe rag (in which case the bollard idea would help) and allowing the determined toe rag to take the car and get away from your home, wife and kids as appropriate - in which case you don't want to have him/them hanging around the house at all. If they are that determined to get your car .. let them ... it's insured. A determined toe rag may want the car for further crime (as a getaway car) and may not be deterred by a post, he may also be prepared to stop at nothing to get that car. There have been cases (not seen any here though) of cars being craned off driveways and the thieves have the balls to say that they are repossessing the car if they are challenged.

So, a matter of balance - and ultimately one of personal choice.

I for one would rather they take the car and just f**k off with it. I would cry like a baby when I realise it's been stolen but it's insured. Yeah sure, I'd really like to stand up to the bast**ds in my hallway and beat the living crap out of them for even "thinking" about trying to steal my car....but it ain't gonna happen like that!

How many people have been shot and stabbed this year alone .. probably for a lot less than an Audi!
