I've just spoken to my local dealership (where I bought my car) and they are telling me although the disk is free (warranty), I have to pay £100 installation, and that it can't be installed by me, as it is a warranty installation.

Are they trying their luck?

I have just called them back, quoting lines from their memo, and they have agreed to supply the disk for free. Isn't that nice of them. ;)

Many dealers are "trying it on". Others have reported today on www.tyresmoke.net that dealers have initially said it will cost £100 but when told to go away and read the memo from Audi UK nearly all of them have come back and said "oh yes it's free".

NOBODY should pay a penny for the upgrade - even if you have a retrofitted RNS-E - yes there is people with a retrofitted RNS-E that have already had a free upgrade.

I asked my dealer (Docklands Audi) to post mine initially but once they got their mits on the discs they wanted me to drop the car in. I guess they were covering themselves just in case anything went wrong. They also took away the 2006 disc, which may be another reason they're disinclined to post them to you.

This is my reply from Tom Peterkin I received yesterday, which re-iterates what has been said above:
Hi Glyn,

We will be sending letters to all Audi customers who have RNS-E sat.nav. fitted to their vehicles, week commencing 15/1.

If you have not received a letter by the end of January please contact your local Audi centre.

The DVD will be FOC and we will ask for your existing disc back.

Regards

Tom Peterkin

I just had a particularly strange one....

"To take advantage of this "offer" you were supposed to contact the dealer by 31st November and it's a £100 labour charge"....

"That's funny I said, the letters don't go out until the 15th January."

"Oh, don't know, perhaps someone is getting confused their end. I can get a disc no problem, but it's reverted back to the full price now, £300-400"

Hmmm. Just goes to show just how much people are getting shafted if they're not privvy to RS246....

EDIT: Just had a call back after forwarding T. Peterkin's email.

"Oh, is yours an RNS-E?"

"Yup, that's what I said..."

"Oh, in that case yes it's FOC. I'll get you a disc within a few days."

Tut Tut...

Been on the phone to my dealer (Harold Wood). Seems strange. He said hes got all the paperwork about it. But needs to ask the master tech. Going to call me back later.

Master Tech? It's so simple to do that even their "only just started" trainee could do it - eject a DVD, insert a DVD and watch...

BTW don't forget that Tom Peterkin at Audi UK has said that anyone having problems getting the update done free should tell the dealer to contact Tom personally, and he will tell them the procedure to follow.

I tried to arrange mine today with the dealer where J.Clarksons mum might well live (mentioning no names) and after asking the servicing supervisor the receptionist said I had to book it in for a day because I had told them the TMC didn't work, and they had to check it and run a diagnostic! Extensive single syable explaination failed to get through to her that all I needed was a new DVD disc, FOC, with NO service charges. Then they rang back and said the upgrade was only available for the A6/A8.

Looking on the bright side, at least I have ruled out another place to take the car in 7k miles when its service is due. Does ANYONE know of a place in S Yorkshire staffed by reasonable, sentient beings? (that service RS4s)

I'm off to Gilders Sheffield in a few minutes to get mine done. I haven't used them for a few years, but looking to get the RS'es looked after by them.

Does anyone have any Audi literature (RS4 handbook excluded) or web links that state that the TMC function works on the RNS-E sat nav system in the RS4 :?:

Dealer got back to me this morning. Car is booked in the Friday morning. FOC. They said it will take about hour an half because they havnt done one on a A4 yet. I mean how hard can it be. But then in all fairness. Atleast they have stood up and not given me any rubbish about it. And are just gunna get it done for me.

little wonder cars are delivered back from servicing with issues still present if they can't even change a CD in under a hour and a half. print these instructions off, it may help them

1. turn on radio
2. eject CD
3. insert new CD
4. return to scratching and/or juggling balls and drinking tea

I got Camberley Audi to supply my new DVD pack last week (FOC as planned), when I popped into parts the only delay was the raising of the paperwork for the 1 for 1 swap. Did the upgrade myself at home took at most 10 mins (any muppet could do it). TMC up and running so easy. No BS there from anyone just action.

They have sold a good number of RS4s and Avants, but no Cabs yet.

Patrick :D
