insurance due next month need particular advice

Post by dummi » Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:44 am

i guess most people here are in a similar situation so i'm looking for some experienced advice on which insurance companies to look into

so my situation is i'm with direct line 9 yrs no claims, they have been good to me for standard cars as my dailies, this is the first modified daily, and i'd have to call it highly modified since the only things mechanically original fit is the cylinder block housing. i'm also thinking i'll be doing track days whenever they come up so year round insurace would be good for that. i'd want all my performance bits covered like for like and for the work truthfully i'd be happy to have it brought back, and me fit the parts since i have other personal cars i can use for commute, but if it needed specialist attention i would like it to go to a performance garage of my choice rather, and i have a few to choose from locally like JBS

i'm looking for thoughts on what approach i should take for insurance with these being my requirements and which companies to look at

hope i'll get some advice, thanks in advance

AON offer a road based insurance with 6 track day cover in the UK, others will ask you to take out track cover for each event. Not too sure what they are like for modded cars though, always worth a try. I know I pay upwards of £500 per event on my 996TT but only £675 per yr for road use.

Hi Dummi,

I previously worked for Direct Line Insurance and they will charge you through the roof for a modded car. One of the worst companies to use for this kind of vehicle.

From my experience the cheapest quote you can possibly get is on confused.com or elephant.co.uk. With regards to covering your mods you need to declare EVERYTHING to the company you go with and ask to speak to a teamleader on the phone to tell you the exact terms and conditions of the cover on your mods as if the advisor isnt sure he will just make it up whereas a teamleader or manager wont
