Price of TC compared with new gearbox

Currently saving for a new torque converter to go in after code has come up, all labour costs looking at approx £2.4k (had fluid and filters changed)

17125 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off.
P0741 - 35-00 -

Would it not be more cost effective to buy a new gear box that includes a new TC at the same time, i understand they come together? is that right, est around £5-7k inc labour

no problems with box at the moment no lights or limp, but gear change is not smooth, could just be TC playing up or could be box

don't want to spend out then have to spend out again, thoughts of what i should be doing? nursing it around till jan when i plan to get it sorted

obviously needs to be looked at what would you do :audibash:

Don't bother just doing the converter as you will end up paying twice for the labour. If you get a new box from Audi it comes with the converter. If you plan on keeping the car and have mods or planning mods you could go the Daveperc way and get it bullet proofed in yanky land.

I don't think anyone with half a brain cell would fit 'just the TC'.

Audi have a quarter of a brain cell because they confirmed to me last week on a potential purchase that they fitted a new box with the old TC! Hahaha b4stards!

They would have fitted a new TC along with the gearbox. Whoever you spoke to at Audi hasn't got a clue. You can't order a new gearbox from Audi without the TC.

They will take it out, send it off to be rebuilt by a gearbox specialist and then reinstall.

Are you putting a std tc in? You could follow a few of us and send a tc to ace to be "tweaked"

If you can stretch to a new gearbox from ZF, this is a better option. Seen too many rebuilds go pear shaped soon after being rebuilt.

We've never had a problem with a re built box ...

Grizz must send the box to a company that does a full overhaul, some companies only replace the 'broken bits' and then other parts can go. I think it's mainly the clutch packs that go on these, and them F seal things which screw up reverse.
