HI All,

Been lurking in the background for a while, RS6 has been performing perfectly for the last 12mths or so, i think it is a function of respecting thecar and ensuring it is properly serviced.

Family have recently moved to a remote hilly part of Gloucestershire, couple of things i wanted to ask.

Historically the car has been serviced at Camberley, anyone got experience of Tetbury Audi?

Also given more remote location, thing of adding a Land Rover defender or Discovery 3 (cant afford a 4), anyone got views on these?

I am also looking into getting snow tyres on the RS6, currently i am running Vred 275/30/19 on standard OEM 19" alloys. Do i need to buy just 255/35/19 snow tyres or do i have to do something more radical and buy a second set of alloys with snow tyres on (moving to 18s)?

Interested in what people do here? Also what snow tyres do people run here? Also if anyone is selling tyres or appropriate alloys i'd be interested too.

I honestly think any snow tyres that will fit the rims will do the job. I'd hardly think you'd notice the traction difference between 255/35/19 or 245/40/18s. It'd probably cope just fine on summer rubber but it's probably best to fit winter rubber if hills are involved. Innit.

Disco 3 is a poor poor car in terms of reliability..if u are going 4x4 then an old landcruiser or pajero would be my choice unless you are willing to accept the flip side of LR ownership..( i owned a rrs sc)

Two thoughts (breaks into mild sweat...)

If you are getting winter tyres narrower is better (within the tolerance of whichever rims you are putting them on). And the difference will be noticeable going down hill, not up! The quattro is magic at getting the car moving even on slicks - but when you come to stopping the 6 is a big heavy car - that's when you need the help!

If you are moving out to Tetbury area I would be inclined to run the car up to MRC rather than risk the local dealer - there is no substitute for experience on these beasts....

The narrow 225 45 18s are great in serious snow and ice but the 255+ would be better when just damp and cold IMHO.
