Oil...?

Hi all, new here and am in the process of cleaning up a C5 RS6 I've picked up. Going to diy alot of the mechanics myself as I'm handy with spanners and was wondering if the 505 01 specified oil is ok to use in any 5w40 make? Eg Comma fully synthetic diesel engine oil?

Also, do the internal switches match those in a c5 a6 as some of the coating on a few of mine have been scratched and I want to replace them?

Cheers in advance and i'l get some pictures up when it stops raining here in Hampshire!

Roger.

I can't help much, but I'm also on the look out for a headlight switch. From what I can gather they look very similar to the A6, but the knob on the RS6 version is slighty squarer. Similarly the RS6 only has 1 slider to adjust the instruments lights, whereas almost all the A6 ones I've seen have 2 sliders (one for headlight +/-?)

It is because the RS6 has xenons as standard and they are adjusted automatically to prevent dazzling of the opposite traffic drivers. So no need for a separate headlights adjusting slider.

Minor service due on the '6.

This stuff looks like it fits the bill: 5w40 and 505.01. Good enough?

Yes, thanks. The thread appeared just as I was browsing their site. :)

I searched the site by registration and (as expected) it recommended a 5w30 but having read a few threads about it this morning it sounds like a 505.01 5w40 is a better choice. I just want to make sure before I order 10 litres of it.

So is this oil OK?

Sorry to be impatient but I want to get the service done next week so I need to order the oil today.

Yes that will be fine, but I have found buying Platinum direct from VW cheaper.

Thanks. :)

This seems like a good price for 5L of Platinum:

I'll be driving past a Euro Car Parts branch later today so I had a look to see if they stocked any suitable oil.

This one is the right spec but I've never heard of Triple QX. Does the name matter or is the oil the same whatever label's on the container?

Now I know why I've never heard of it: it's Euro Car Parts' "own brand" oil.

I know forums can be full of baseless speculation but what I'm reading suggests that Triple QX might not be right for the '6.

That is pure conjecture.
