Hi all,

Took the 6 out this morning and before I had even done a mile it stalled and coasted to a halt.

I was slowing down for a speed bump from around 30 and the car appeared to stall.. It was still rolling along in drive but with no power steering throttle etc. and I just coasted to a stop. Put it in park and it fired straight back up. I then put it in reverse to straighten the car up and as soon as I lifted off the brake it moved about 6 inches and then stalled again. I then put it in park started it up and managed to get a bit further back this time before stalling. So off I went again and on the third time I managed to reverse and then pull off and it did not happen again for the rest of my 10 mile journey.

The car now appears to hold in gear a little too long before shifting. It is going up to 2.5K revs with little throttle before shifting gear. My first thought and fear was the gearbox, which has been perfect since I bought the car. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be….I am hoping just something electrical and easy to fix and really hope it is not the gearbox as I am going to France in the car on Friday so hope to fix whatever it is before then.

Now this probably a coincidence but since the problem my interior lights are always on, despite no doors been open and the engine running. I have switched them off but when I put the switch in the middle the lights come on again and will not go off. Again this is probably a coincidence as I cannot see hope this strange problem could be in anyway related but I thought that it was worth mentioning.

Any help is much appreciated as I would like to get it sorted before my trip.

Mine did this when I popped an intercooler hose off - have you noticed any difference in noise when driving?

While I'm basking in 35 degrees over here in Baku...I was speaking to the missus this morning and she mentioned it had been chucking it down back in blighty...If the weather has been anything similar where you are check for damp in your passenger footwell...water can get down past the windscreen scuttle and travel there...where the electrical box of tricks are and I thing though I'm not 100%..some gearbox electrics?...may not be this but it's certainly worth a feel of the carpet to eliminate it as a cause

Its ironically called the "convenience control unit", being located in the most inconvenient place of the car that is a common flooded point, rendering many electrics shorted. Although if it is that, its also likely to effect central locking, windows etc...

Hope you get sorted, but definitely one to check.

All your fuses looking ok? need to check fault codes for sure.

There is no boost leak or lack of power and there is no evidence of water in the passenger footwell....it is bone dry.

I'm going to plug it in on Tuesday and see if it brings any codes up. I did a bit of running round in it this aft and the problem has not resurfaced.

Hopefully I will have better idea on Tuesday, in the meantime if you his have any other suggestions I could try that would be appreciated.

Well the problem has not resurfaced since Sunday and I Plugged the car in today and there were no fault codes at all, which is good. Although I was hoping that it may have logged the fault.

Whatever it was appears to have disappeared. Nevertheless I am going to clean out the MAFs and throttle bodies tomorrow.

Ok so I think I found the problem.

It appeared that the engine loom had not been correctly routed under the air boxes causing the passenger side MAF unit to not seat down properly. I think as I went over a speed bump it must have broken the seal slightly and stalled it. Rerouted the loom and the MAF is now seated properly.

All appears fine as yesterday I did the 1000 mile journey to the South of France and the car never missed a beat....absolutely faultless I am so impressed with these breasts!
