Massive boost leak

Post by Mr V10 » Sat Jun 09, 2012 11:26 pm

Had a cousin pop over and he wanted a spin in the car, took him out and it was running flawlessly, going like <beep> off a shovel, then I thought I heard a weird noise, turned the music down and it got louder and louder. It sounds like someone letting air out of a tyre but 100x louder, I couldn't hear my exhuast it has become that loud. It only does it when it hits 3,000 RPM. There is no real noticeable performance reduction. Anyone had this? I've made two videos to try and demonstrate the noise but it is hard to capture. It sounds as it if it is coming from the drivers side, intercooler hose popped off?

Lost my Vag Com. :bash:

Car is having the intercoolers done at Unit 20 in a few days anyway, so could leave it until then, or I could get it to MRC before then if Doug can book me in, don't fancy driving up to U20 when the car isn't right and I bet the AA wouldn't recover unless it physically broken down. :audibash:

I had mine do this, a bottom intercooler pipe had popped off, need a new rubber pipe as it had "shrunk" think it was about 70 pounds :-/
Had it repaired outside my house, maybe a AA man could put a new one on If you get the part from Audi? I had my old one put back on. It it kept popping off, so put a new one on! maybe AA could temp repair before you trip away?

Hi Amar, :bigwave:
I had the same thing happen to me with the passenger side hose to the intercooler. Take the engine undercover off, remove the bottom intercooler hoses-clean all the oil away and then replace and tighten till get the new wagner or venair silicone boost hoses and hose clips. Oil from the charge mixture gradually weakens the grip of the oem rubber hoses so they slip off. :audibash:

Also check that source of external oil on hoses, if there, not coming from leaking rocker cover gaskets.

Similar thing to mine, bottom hose popped off, I replaced them with wagners hoses.

Still got my old ones though Amar if you want me to post you some spares?

You could get some Mikalor clamps too, they are much stronger than jubilee clips

It happens to everyone at some point; Consider it losing your intercooler virginity. You've already fooled around and got to base 2 with the holes in them, now you've popped your cherry.

Easy fix. Get the car in the air, sump shield off, and you'll see the intercooler hose that's come off. Put it back on and tighten that jubilee clip as much as you dare. And then some.

Sorry to hear your problems, Amar.
As it happened all of a sudden, 90% chance it will be the popped off bottom hose, as others mentioned. If you can get your car on the ramp, it shoud be no problem to get it sorted.
Good luck with repair and please, keep us updated!
