Shop, thank you so much. I REALLY appreciate that. I've forwarded it onto my mate.
Will there be any performance/sound difference upgrading to the Wagners hoses? Or are they just less likely to pop off?
I'll have to check the condition of my hoses before I commit to new ones if they don't offer much benefit over standard, then I would rather spend the money elsewhere, do you have Hotchkiss ARBs in stock? Or maybe do me an AMAZING deal on Wagners.

There is this kit too. The Wagner one has all the hoses bar two, this has all six.

The Wagner kit also include six hoses. The benefit they claim is "The lower Intercooler Hoses are 15mm longer than the OEM Hoses, so these will fit better then the Stock units".

What that actually means is that the pipes on the Waggers are slightly shorter than the stock IC so it's better to use the longer hoses. I use the stock hoses on my Waggers and that's fine, as long as you tighten the jubilee clip enough. The Venair are the same size as OE, so if you have Waggers then better to go for the Wagner hoses.

EDIT/ I will be buying new hoses soon because one of the stupidly inaccessible ones is damaged. I will either get venair or Wagner. Haven't decided yet.

Thanks for the explanation, Shop. I've decided to screw the Wagner coolers (for now), I will drive Amanda's car (if she lets me) as she has kindly offered to store my car when I go to Miami as Unit 20 will be closed when my flight departs and arrives back (Grizz will collect from hers). If I think the Hotchkiss on her car are worth the money, then I will be bringing some back from Miami with me and will fit them myself as have the whole of June off after my trip. :)
Question though - You can buy the Wagner kit in pieces, is it worth me buying the bigger ducts that allow more air through for my stock coolers?

Will have a think about the hoses. I've done 4k miles at non OEM boost and this is the first a hose has popped off. If this is going to become a regular occurance, I may go for the wagner hoses.

What would you guys do?

i went wagner hoses, and i'm standard. for the little money they are, its worthwhile in my opinion.

they are longer, and were a pain in the ass to fit!

There's no reason why it will pop off again if you tighten them up properly. Mine popped off once after fitting the Waggers, then I tightened them up properly and never been bothered since. I'm not really sure what the advantage of the silicone hoses are. Or if there are any downsides, for that matter.

This was my gut feeling too. It isn't a known issue for these hoses to pop off all the time, otherwise more and more people would be ranting about it, so why throw £200+ down the drain? I will ask Grizz to tighten the bastards as hard as he can when he takes them in and out. Stronger clips sound like a good idea though, need to look into that.

Other than old hoses perishing and cracking, they also go soft with age and collapse under vacuum.

Have blue hoses on mine, but would prefer black if I had the choice again as I like the OE look with non OE performance

Massive boost leak - Update

Post by Mr V10 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:26 pm

Got it onto some drive on ramps with the help of a lot of wood, damn, it is low. Whipped the under tray off and could instantly see the hose that had come loose from the intercooler, got it back on and then the clip over nice and tight. I considered doing a write up, but there isn't really anything to it. I found it difficult initially to get the hose back over the cooler, so loosened it from the other end and twisted it over onto the other section. Took it for a test run and there isn't any more whooshing noise, drove it as hard as I dared in this weather and it hasn't come off again. Here's a photo below.

Image

I did discover an undertray screw was missing, so I'm going to grab one of them, but other then that, im happy. Thanks for your help all.

Amar, looking at the picture your car bottomed out and knocked the jubilee clip off as it is damaged (hose is also damaged but not failed). This happened on mine so i have told the wife to drive over speed bumps driving the wheel over the centre of the bump. Hope you cleaned the oil out of the hose as this can make it come of again. I you found it easy to get the hose on then it probably isn't dry enough, they are buggers to do if bone dry.

edit - glad you got it sorted though

Bang on the money, just put it back on for now.
Get the new hoses when you upgrade your coolers. Sure it will be fine till then.

Is it normal to hear a whooshing type noise when the turbos kick in? Kind of like a quiet dump valve :?

I don't know if it's me being paranoid but i took the the car out for a spirited drive the other night and i could hear a slight wooshing sound as the turbos kicked in. Car seems slightly down on power but that could be me just getting used to it again :?

Checked the intercooler pipes and they're on nice and tight.

Any thoughts?
