ive noticed my right rocker cover gasket is a bit leaking.
its getting annoying when giving it the beans, its smelling burned oil.
ive read in elsawin it needs to get the engine out to replace the gasket (47 euro...)

Anyone replaced it without removing the engine?

Both sides can be changed without out removing engine one side is easyish the other needs a bit of jiggery pokery :audibash: Your steering wheel is on the wrong side not sure if that makes a difference :bigwave:

Elsawin tells me when the right one needs replacing, the engine has to come out...
Dont know if it differs on which side the steeringwheel is.
Ive heard too it can be done without removing the engine. i think its because of space elsawin says engine out...

its like when i got my f125 switch replaced, the mechanic (Audi) told me the engine has to come out :audibash:
or when a Audi mechanic made a testdrive to hear the rattle from the right front...he asked me if it had air-suspension :audibash:
omg :drink:i told him if the oil is out of the drc system, yes.

I've had both done and IIRC the driver side (UK) was the easier one.

Ringo, any guesstimate on the price or the booktime involved when you had yours replaced in situ? Mine are weeping slightly too and it does bug me so is on the list.

Haha, my car stuff has already moved in to the "big folder" too, quicker than I initially expected! Thanks :)

Didnt you smell burned oil when driving furious? Which side is it leaking? both? its common i think.
Prob a DIY job isnt it.

No the weeping isn't that bad on mine yet so I can't recall getting the burning oil smell yet. Had that when I first bought the car but that was due to a worn feeder pipe that was leaking I believe. I wouldn't be in a position time-wise to do the work myself if it was within my skillset, hell, I haven't had the time to take my Airbox off yet to check the MAF/MAF seals etc yet and I have been meaning to do that since Monday now.

Our american cousins across the water on RS6.com, being the ultimate DIY's have a solution for replacing the 'valve cover gasket' with out engine pull. In this instance our seppo mates are more correct in calling it a 'valve cover gasket' as the RS6 is an OHC engine. better still it could be called an 'ohc cover."

Just be careful 'flexing' the pipe on the dreaded RHD- drivers side. :audibash:

yeah ive heard when that pipe breaks, the engine has to come out... :audibash:
prob i could try snugging down the bolts, although that sounds risky too cos they should be 10nm...

Might be being thick but from the picture that pipe looks like it has easily reachable clamping/replacement points by the 2 arrows so wouldn't have thought so?

Yeah, can't see the fuss. You have to move it to get the plugs out (see FAQ).
