We always seem to end up with a snow thread at some point over on the bmw forum, so thought i'd start one here!

They've been forecasting it for the last 6 months lol - finally we're getting a bit in Birmingham :D

sent this to my cousin lol... (my old m3 replica from around 5years ago which he now owns).

Ain't got any with graffiti on, but here's some from this afternoon's play session with the winter tyres on...

Have fun guys (it's just started here) but do remember that it may have traction beyond measure when accelerating in the stuff, but when stopping it is no more nimble that a fully loaded Transit van!!

Erm... You still need to bear in mind that every other nutter on worn out summer tyres could be a kamikaze attack waiting to happen.

PS - I mean playing, not going at 10-10ths!

I don't want to see any of in a ditch either!

Just went out and took some, luckily I spotted this thread before it got dark.

Glad I don't have to drive anywhere, as I don't want to risk someone crashing into my baby, but I know if I need to the the car will be more then capable. My S8 with 285 summer tyres x4 was unstoppable on the steepest inclines and the deepest snow, quattro ftw.

Unless you have Winter Tyres Dave...............
Very true - and even better if you have studded ones for the ice underneath... I lived 5 years + in Norway...

But my point is that all the clever Quattro and ESP stuff is fantastic at getting you going - but when it comes to stopping you are still relying on four contact points and ABS - ie just the same as Mondeo man next door!! So tyre for tyre the effect is basically same - the problem is that we have 2 tonnes to stop, probably from higher speed!

Exactly my point - true going both uphill, and down hill!!

^^Hehe. Probably made even worse by the nice fat tyres on the RS6.

Yeah, it is easy to get carried away with quattro, I'm sure everyone here has enough common sense to slow down gently, and too approach junctions/traffic lights slowly, perhaps even using engine braking to slow the car down rather then your brakes.

Reminds me of the first time I drove in properly cold weather in Canada. Jumped into the rental and off I went out of the airport. First set of red light I put my foot on the brakes and just sailed straight through them. Lucky nothing was coming. After I realised that I was driving on 6inch thick ice on summer tyres I slowed down. A lot.

Two weeks ago, I nearly took the winter tyres off the car. Lucky I didn't! Only a sprinkling of snow here right now though.

Grr,

It's all gone at my home - just back in from works night out but tomorrow will have to go seeking some more snow at higher altitude!
