Well Im not sure you can do it Vagcom but Im sure someone will pipe up on that. If it helps I have ordered one from Timpsons ( cobblers key cutters etc) I have to take the car in tomorrow where he codes it for me. Total cost is around £150 minus also a 15% voucher on line. so in all about 60 odd quid at least cheaper than Audi.

Where in the world are you, it sounds like you need some assistance to help you along. I'm sure there is a friendly fellow near you that can help explain the joy's of using Vagcom. If your anywhere near me I'd more then happy to help.

You can do it with the Vagcom if you have the SKC which you won't have. For our immobilisers the SKC code is a rolling encryption and the dealership request the code from Audi in Germany and it will be valid only on that day. Audi will charge you £50 to code the key.

I'm not sure if this will work but certainly worth a try...when you change the battery in the key you have to go thru a bit of a faff to get it to "code" the key.
This involves inserting the key into the ignition and turning two clicks round and pressing the lock/unlock button 3 times before the key will work again normally.
As I say it might not work for a previously un coded key...but worth a try before Audi relieve you of £50 for one of their techs to do the same.

That's for the remote. Will have no effect on the coding of the key. The remote is easy to match to the car and no special tools are necessary.

Ah okay...just chipped in cause I have heard of Audi charging around £80 in Aberdeen for a battery change and "recode"...Aberdeen gypes with more money than sense.

That's shocking. Especially since the procedure for matching the remote is in the handbook.

Is the SKC the number on the black plastic tab attached to the keys when new. ? Also i thought you could use a certain device to get the SKC.

No, you never have the SKC code.

I've just had one done, bought a blank key off ebay £45:

Had it cut at Sainsburys whilst shopping £2

Had it coded at South Hereford Audi £50 including wash and vac, cup of tea and two biscuits whilst I poked around the shiny R8s mmmmm maybe one day!
